Does anyone know if this will work or have tried it themselves? I have one, with the YS Tech fan and that SOB makes a loud whirring noise which is driving me crazy! :Q I saw that teamawe.com had the panaflo 60mm fans and was debating on whether or not to give it a shot as a replacement for the fan I have on now.

TIA :)

It will work, but the Panaflo doesn't move as much air and you might overheat. Depends on your CPU and if you have good case cooling.

I have it sitting ontop of a K6-III+ 450 which I overclocked to 550. I was lucky enough to get in on the deal for a KS282+PP303x combo from Onvia.com a few weeks back for $50 shipped. I have two fans in the case now. Temps are running about 75-78F for the case temp and the processor idles around 73F. The highest I have seen it peak at is around 89F. Its a fairly cool running chip from what I have seen so far.......

Now that I think about it, there might be a GlobalWin fan on the heatsink. According to the RPM monitor, its spinning around 4500rpm. I will have to take a look when I get home today.

I wouldn't recommend it cause the 60mm fan that teamawe.com sells is only 14.1CFM which is only about half as powerful as the YS Tech fan that you currently have.

Has your current fan always made the whirring sound? I can't hear my YS Tech fan at all but I also have 4 case fans that dround it out. Have you cleaned your current fan lately? It might just be out of balance. I bought a new 60mm YS Tech fan from someone in the For Sale forum a couple of months ago for only 8$ shipped which is a good deal. You might post a WTB thread there and see if you can get a deal like that or maybe think about getting one of them 23.5CFM Sunons.

Its a Y.S. Tech fan with a GlobalWin sticker on it, the specs on it are 36dB/26cfm. K63 chips run pretty hot, going to this this lower rpm fan i dunno if your HS could take the heat load. Theres much better 60mm quiet fans out there from Sanyo Denki and Adda, if you say your HS runs cold now, go ahead and try it only way to find out. But i would suggest a Alpha PEP66, you can throw a low CFM fan on this HS and get still high perforamce due to how the HS is designed.

I have one of the newer K6-III+ chips, which run much cooler than the originals did (I have one of those too!) since they run at a lower voltage (2.0 vs. my original K6-III which ran at 2.4). I'm not sure how much of an effect going to the lower CFM fan would have since the heatsink never even gets warm to the touch (unlike the CoolerMaster I have on my Thunderbird 850 hehehehe :D ). Its a brand new FOP32-1, so there hasn't been any time for the dust to collect on it. Its been loud since I put it on. I have Panaflo case fans, which barely make any noise at all.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....what to do???

Well if the heatsink is pretty much air cold now...go for the lower cfm quieter fans, id recommend something other then the L1a 60mm panaflo tho its specs are kinda poor. Another solution would screw a 80mm grill to your FOP and attach a 80mm fan on it. Its what i have on my K62-450@550 system.. GW FKP-32, with a PCP&C 80mm slapped on top (20dB/28cfm)

The panaflo is probably a little wimpy for your purposes. Something with airflow ~19-23 cfm is about as low as you can safely go.

You might tweak a three pin to four pin adapter to run the YSTech at 7v just to see how well a weaker fan would work.
