Panaflo or Vantec Stealth?

Seems everyone goes with the 80mm Panaflos for quietness (24cfm, 21db). But I just looked at the specs for the 80mm Vantec Stealth and it outputs 3cfm more at the same noise level (27cfm, 21db). Which is rather surprising since the Vantec Stealths seem like nothing more than slowed-down high quality double ball bearing fans, while the Panaflos have that HydroWave bearing.

Any reason you guys aren't using the Vantech Stealth instead?

PS The NMBs at SVC are an awesome deal at $2.50/each. But the 18cfm is rather puny (although at <18db). Any place that doesn't rip us off on Panaflo/Vantech Stealth fans and with reasonable shipping? I know these only cost $2-3 wholesale. But some places sell them for $10+!

I use panaflo and I've never heard the vantecs running so I can't give you a true answer.

i've used both, and with a side by side comparision, i can tell that the vantecs are slightly louder (even though they're rated at the same db).

i have yet to try out the vantec stealth...but looking from the spec it sure looks good...
panoflow is high quality stuff man...even just by holding the fan...you can tell there is a big difference just by its weight

I have both, and I can't tell the difference. Panaflo has a longer standing reputation for high quality fans, but Vantec is on the rise in the cooling/enthusiast market.

In short: buy whichever's cheaper. But it's not quite that simple...the Stealths come with 3-pin to 4-pin adaptors and screws. Panaflos often come tail-less.

Hope this is at least slightly helpful,

Got both. Go panaflo. Stealth has more annoying (to me) motor noise.
Edit: I do like those NMB at SVC. Less air, but pretty quiet motor noise (lower pitched). If you don't need the extra CFM, I'd recommend them.

I'd say go with the Panaflo's. I got Vantecs in one machine, and Panaflo's in the other. And there is a slight yet noticeable difference on the Vantec machine. There's just a slight sharpness to the sound that is more noticeable with the Vantecs. If you heard it, you'd know what I'm talking about.

The Panaflo's are cheap in bulk, and don't cost much to get tails for if you need them...

I couldn't find a place that carried both Panaflo low-speed 60mm and 80mm fans (1 of each) for a reasonable price after shipping. So I ended up getting Vantec Stealth 60mm and 80mm fans. I'm a little dissapointed to hear the Vantec's have a noticeable noise to them. I had hoped that @21db, it'd be hard to discern. Maybe I should've just gone for a 25db NMB 80mm fan I saw for 25% of the price of the Vantec. I see some people claiming 28db is "really quiet", but I guess air resistance and other conditions are factored in.

Now I'm just hoping the pathetically low output Vantec Stealth 60mm (12cfm) can replace the current 20cfm CPU fan without causing my CPU to melt. :D

You might want to consider a heatsink that uses an 80mm fan, like the Alpha PAL8045 (or its P4 equivalent). I don't know how much I'd trust 12cfm to cool my CPU.

I know what you mean. This is on an older PC I'm planning to leave always-on as a server, and I've already maxed out the available space with a HS/fan that's 55mm in height. Hopefully a Celeron 366@550 doesn't need that much cooling with the CPU idle process running much of the time.

using a coolermaster heatsink my my 1.1-1.48 tually. i switched the fan to a vantec 60mm. heat rocketed from 50 something to 60 something. ah well thats the price u pay for less noise i guess.

any cheap places selling 80mm conversion to 60mm mounts?

and whats a tail? is it easy to put on a panaflow?

You should have just done the 7 volt mod then
