Panaflo L1A vs. H1A

Why do so many of you recommend the L1As as opposed to the H1As or something more powerful? The H1A is not that loud at 32dba and it pushes 39cfm of air. I'm looking to add some fans and I was wondering which ones to upgrade to. Please give some advice.

It more of a personal choice on how you can tolerate the noise. H1A are louder than L1A, the fan blades spin faster and thus pushes more air around. I use 2 92 mm Panaflo H1A for my case and they make about 35 dB each (56.8 cfm, 2850 rpm) compared to the L1A w/ 27 dB, 42.7 cfm, 2100 rpm. I chose the H1A to move more air through the system at a faster rate.

I'm pretty confused now...I don't know which fans to get. I wanted to get the L1As since people said they were real quiet and cheap over at BGMicro, but now I'm wondering if a more powerful fan is better.

It depends on what you are doing with the fans if it is to go on a CPU then get the H1A but if it is for a case fan then I would use the L1As in the front and maybe a H1a as a exhaust in the back of the case. The YS Tech fan 48.5 cfm is a great fan for a cpu if your heatsink uses a 80mm fan.

I'm using an SK6 heatsink...I don't know if it can hold an 80mm fan...it seems to be made to hold 60mm fans. Anyone know if it can take a 80mm one also?

You can rotate the fan 45 degrees on top of the SK6 to mount it. I've not done this myself, but seen the description in another thread. There are also 60->80mm adapters. I've found that an L1A on an 8045 is plenty to cool my 1.1 tbird @ 1333. FrozenCpu also sells the M1A which blows more than an L1a and is slightly louder. It's not obtrusive, however.

i saw a picture before...and say you were looking down on the sk6, and its the shape of a square, the fan would be placed on so it was the shape of a diamond.

32dB isn't too loud... by itself. But you have to remember that's only one fan. What about the other fans, hard drive, etc? Most of the silencer people tend to agree that 35dB total for a system is merely decent, having two of those H1A's would already make 35dB. Add in a hard drive or GPU fan and you're over the limit. Some of the more extreme silencers want a system even quieter than 35dB, and a few even going into the realm of <25dB total.

For some other options, there's the Y.S. Tech FD1281255B-2N (28.7dB/38.3CFM). Fantastic specs, but IMPOSSIBLE to find. If you can find it, please post here, I'd certainly like to know.

Here's a pic of a 80mm on my SK6,I replaced it with a L1A a couple of days ago.Just take your time installing the fan it stays firmly connected once on.My cpu temp did go up about 3 cel over the 60mm fan but the noise difference is like night & day,plus my 1.33 Tbird still does 1.47 @ default voltage.

I picked up a SX600 with what I thought were 3 L1As. After a couple days of working around the case I thought it seemed a bit louder. They turned out to be H1As. It took me several hours of being around the computer with the side off to notice. I will likely be using H1As from now on...they just aren't that much louder.

I've got 4 L1As in my SX830 case and I think I'm gonna pop 2 H1As in the front.

What exactly do you mean when you say that? It fits great. It is just as tight as the 60mm that was on there.

so much of the fan is not even blowing on the heatsink
can it possibly work better?

Dropped my cpu temps about 6 degrees. I was able to remove my front intake fan after putting this on and my temps still went down.

The panaflo h1a doesn't have rpm feedback though. So does that mean that my motherboard will think there is no cpu fan attached?

More or less. Just means you can't monitor RPM.

Personal choice. I consider 32dbA to be too loud. The 21dBA of the L1A is much, much nicer -- especially if you have several computers in the same room!
