Panaflo 80mm 12L

Tiamat

Lifer
Not sure how the L1's sound but all 10 of the panaflo 80mm 12L's that I received from sidewindercomputers.com (china made) emit a distinctive A# pitch below middle C which is a little more than a quarter step sharp (a barely flat B below middle C). This is at 12V

Its definately not "quiet" by any means.

At around 9V it still has a distinctive pitch, although this time at a Slightly sharp G below middle C. Its about 1/2 as loud.

At around 7V, the pitch is almost gone, but still there at a slightly sharp E below middle C. The sound level again drops a bit, but is audible from 12"

Is this similar to other peoples 12L's or L1's?

BTW, i havent tried the fans at 5V so i cant say if they give that "clicking" sound that others mentioned about the china made 12Ls.

THe pitches were not obtained from any software, so i dont have any data to state what I just did.

I just got 2 80mm L1A's, made in China. One is pretty quiet, can only really hear air noise (which isnt at all annoying). Other one is louder than the >1 year old similar spec'ed YS-Tech it's replacing, makes this strange noise which I guess is a bit like it's slightly catching on something plasticy or papery. Cant be bothered to try it on the TruePower's Fan Only connectors (6v-9v or something) since routing the cabes in my PC was a right PITA. If I get annoyed enough with it (and I probably will), I'll either put the YS-Tech back or swap this panaflo with the YS-Tech sitting on the cpu heatsink, hope to drown some of the noise within the middle of the case.
