Nintendo has filed suit against pocketpair for patent infringement.


The key point is it is for patent infringement, not copyright or trademark. That means they are suing for some game mechanic or something like a rendering technique, not the character likenesses. Nobody seems to know exactly what patent(s) they are suing over.
I’m told they own a patent for throwing a spherical ball to capture creatures in-game. That’s pretty specific so it will be interesting to see how it plays out

They should/could have used “PalCubes” or any other shape but unfortunately used the “PalSpheres” that may be a bit too close to a PokeBall
