What is the difference when you are considering overclocking- does the palomino have heat issues compared to the t-bred?
by the way, it is a Athlon xp 1900 palomino chip i have

thanks,
Jamie

Tbred, especially B core, kills the palamino. My XP2000+ palamino did 1.8gHz with super air cooling.

My 1700+ B does 2.35gHz with the same air cooling.

Palaminos also run hotter generally, 50 bucks on a 1700B does wonders man.

Yep Tbred core overclock much higher:)

XP1700 Tbred B @ 2.05GHz:) (me is jealous of his ^ overclock !:p;))
Did have XP1600 Pal @ 1.77GHz ,before that XP1500 Pal @1.58GHz

pal usually runs hotter at the same frequency comparing to tbred..and its oc potential lower..around 1.7-1.9g maybe? tbred b's are higher alot, say average around 2.2g or higher..

Curiously for those of you who are OCing the T-bred, what board are you guys using? I currently have a palomino, but am seriously considering geting a t-bred 1700+. Thanks.

I have an 1800+ Palamino that will only hit 140 @11.5 = 1610 on an Abit KR7A board. I have an 1800+ T-Bred A that runs 183@10= 1830 on an Abit NF7-S board. Both have the same memory (Crucial PC2100 2*256) and the same TT Volcano coolers. I am about to get a 1700+ T-Bred B to see what it will do.

I've had my XP1700 Tbred B in 2 mbrds now ,1st my old Asus A7V266-E (KT266a) I had it running at 1.9Ghz (12.5x152) ,I simply ran out if multipliers & FSB ,it could of gone higher on the FSB but I would have to of increased the RAM latencies which I didn't want to do ,+ I wasn't keen on the higher PCI speed.
The 1700 is now on my Asus A7N8X at 11.5x178~2052MHz @1.7v(reported as 1.75v) ,it can do 2.17GHz but it needs a whopping 1.85v(reported as 1.9v!:Q) to get it stable & cpu temps are 7C higher then!

I also have an XP1900 Palomino. Anyone think 1.75-1.8 is viable without cranking the voltage too high? Running an Abit AT7 by the way ;)

I'm on the Asus A7N8X, but any of the Nforce2 boards are nice. Well, I shouldn't say any of them, the asus, epox, abit, chaintech seem to be the way to go. MSI is ok I guess too.

Might happen, but 1.6-1.7 is all I'd expect.

darn. :frown: I saw on overclockers.com some decent gains..with the average hovering around 1.8, but the voltage runs at 1.8 usually. Can anyone else offer a glimmer of hope? ;)

I think the average of 1.8ghz at overclockers.com is skewed by those guys with super-cooling setup. As you can see at the site, most of the guys over 1.8ghz are using some kind of super-cooling (i.e., lots of watercooling, peltier). With air-cooling only, I think the average would be somewhere below 1.8ghz.

I used to run XP1900+(pally) at 1.74ghz with 1.775v. Currently with a Tbred (XP1800+), I'm running it at 2.1ghz (10.5x200) on a MSI nForce2 board. I would say the performance difference is very much noticeable even when I'm just doing everyday tasks. If you have extra cash to burn on a Tbred & an nforce2 board, don't hesitate as you'll have lots of fun overclocking it.
