Palomino Rumour Roundup

Well, I've heard everything from it running slighly cooler to it being totally tweaked with new pipes, BPU, a thermal diode, etc etc etc.

So what have you guys heard? Anybody know when we'll be able to buy it in our local stores?

There was that thread about it running without active cooling, but I'm not sure how reliable the source was. Was that in fact true?

i read that in a review too, although it would just seem unusual to have no hsf on your amd chip after the t-bird and duron were running so hot....lets just say that i wouldnt want to be the first to try it

I think the chip at 1.5GHz without active cooling was the "thoroughbred," not the palomino.

AMD will be using "Super Silicon" on one of their upcoming chips. It is a man made silicon that is several times cooler running and cleaner than normal silicon.

With a nice fan, ill bet that chip running 1.5 could nail down 2ghz.

There was a good discussion at Aces about the new silicon. From what I remember, it will cost about $10 more per chip, but should better higher bin splits, somewhat off-setting the cost. The 1.5Ghz was running with a heatsink, but no fan. The silicon doesn't reduce power consumption drastically (it does have lower resistance, therefore there is a noticeable improvement) but it does shed heat very quickly.
