Palomino operating temp

My XP 1600+ has always seemed to run pretty hot. It idles in the 50's and gets in the 60's under load. It's tripped a buzzer at 70 fairly often, especially in the summer.

I just now decided to play with OC'ing it a bit, right now i have the FSB at 150MHz, with the locked multiplier it's at about 1.6GHz (which gave a noticable bump since I think its the bottleneck in my system). My mobo is set to a 5:2:1 clock ratio so the PCI and stuff is running at normal speed (prolly a little slower now).

Any case, it seems to idle now right around 59C and after playing HL2 for a while and quitting it was up around 65C. I'm a little suprised that the temp didn't seem to go up much during idling at all, it's always been in the high 50's. Is that normal for this generation chip? What temps are safe?

Thanks!

Paliminoms do run pretty hot. My old 1700+ reached 67c durin the summer, ut it never had any issues with that kind of heat.

i dont think it should run that hot really

i have a Athlon XP 2000+ palomino core which idles at about 37 - 42 and goes up to about 50 while under load for a long time

cooling is a vantec aeroflow HSF on the processor and 1 80MM case fan

I've been running the 1600+ for a couple weeks now at about 1.63GHz, using the stock cooler BTW, and haven't had any issues. Just want to make sure I'm not going to cook it to death in a month. Thanks for the input :)
