Depends what you want to do. Most people here are pro-Windows CE

I'm a palmOS guy because I don't really want a version of windows in my pocket and I prefer how the PalmOS does stuff.

When it comes to multimedia, the two have become a lot closer than they used to be. Palm's now lagging slightly behind windows instead of 50 miles down the road sitting at the bar drinking a beer :)

Different stokes for diff folks...I was a PalmOS guy into I got a PocketPC for X-Mas...

Palm is nice and simple, the new versions give a lot more power...pocketPC rocks.

So its just what DO YOU want to do with it? If you want a simple PIM get a Palm.

Isn't Win CE several years old?

It's been replaced by Pocket PC.

Palm is more efficient if you want no frills reliable, fast, basic PDA.

If you want everything go for a Pocket PC, a Dell Axim X3i or HP iPaq.

I haven't had a PalmOS device in awhile (PalmIIIx was my last) but it certainly crashed handily enough. I kept a paperclip in the batter compartment so I could push the reset button more easily.

PalmOS does crash, I know, I have a new Tungsten-E and it does crash every once in a while.

PalmOS based machines are generally cheaper than their PocketPC equivalents. Palm also comes with a PowerPoint reader, PocketPCs don't (generally speaking). Multimedia wise, Palm isn't that far behind PocketPC. I can still play my videos and MP3s using the headphone jack or the built-in speaker.

I don't think you can go wrong with either PalmOS or PocketPC though.

If I were looking at a Palm, I'd buy the Tungsten-E (if you don't need wireless and stuff). T2, T3 if you got the money. If I were to buy a PocketPC, I'd buy a Dell Axim X3i.

I like pocketpc's handwritting input better... altho, i have not yet seen graffiti 2 in action. the new OS 5.x looks nice tho (on the clies anyway). either way, i found i didn't have much use for one after i thought i would.

on a side note, the OLLLD "PDA's" like the HP 200 LX had a powerful equation solver that my dad still uses for work. Does anyone know if there's any 3rd party software for either palm/ppc? He has two HP's, but one is dead, the other who knows how much longer.

I've read that people like Graffiti 1 better, but that's probably due to old habits. It is possible to replace Graffiti 2 with 1.

I dunno but I like Palm OS a lot on my Palm Pilot. It does what I need it to and there are a lot of games for it.

They just renamed wince to pocketpc.

It was renamed in 2000 when the first version of POcket PC debuted. Next was PocketPC 2002. It was replaced last year by Windows for Mobile 2003.

Or you could buy one with integrated wireless, like the Dell Axim X3i which can have integrated 802.11b!

Look for a Dell Axim X5 on eBay it has both CF and SD slots.

Use one for a cheap WiFi card and the other for storage (MP3's, videos, games, applications, etc.)

On old models sure, but they have very weak processing power so that's your reason for the efficiency. The newer Palms with the intel xscale (Tungsten C/T3) are no more so battery efficient than the Powerpc brands.
