My friend wants me and him to give my uncle a Palm. I think my uncle will enjoy wireless web access, even if just as a novelty -he loves cool gadgets and has plenty of cash to blow - that's what being rich and single does for ya. The only two handhelds that I see that have wireless web are the Palm VII and the Palm VIIx. I'm definitely inclinded to purchase the VIIx cause it has the extra 6 mb of RAM and I've heard how quickly the web clippings can fill it up. LMK your thoughts on this and any other palms - is it worth it to save some $ and go with a cheaper one?

Yeah between 2 and 8 megs of ram is functionally like have two completely different machines. I went from an m100 to a iiixe and it's amazing how much more stuff I can put with 8 megs rather than 2.

Personally I think the VIIx is a complete waste of money. Web clipping just seems to me to be an exercise in frustration.

Or the other option is my personal fave: the Handspring Visor Platinum. For less than the the money you spend on a VIIx you could get the Platinum, plus a foldable keyboard, plus a backup module. And, if he is as much as a gadget freak as you say, his cell phone may support infrared digital transmission. If that is the case, then he can browse on the net with the Visor Platinum (or a Palm IIIxe or Vx or something).

Why not got with a Vx and get Omnisky? Very similar in function to a VIIx, but the service is cheaper, $40 a month unlimited, and the speed is superior, 19.2K I think that's the best wireless setup for the Palm right now.
