Palm V won't install right...

I'm trying to get my computer to Hotsync with my Palm. I installed the Palm okay, but under System->Hardware->Device Manager, it says that the device (Palm) won't start up. I just installed the latest Hotsync software, have a Palm V with whatever version Palm OS that comes with it, and Windows 2000. As far as I can tell, both COM ports are working fine. The Palm works fine, I just can't get it installed.
