okay here is the scoop:

the palm v international contains the same stuff the palm v (regular) has except it ALSO contains a international adapter kit.

a picture of the kit is shown on fleabay at:
http://cgi.XXX.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=434455235

this was confirmed directly by calling PALM SALES at 1-800-881-7256.

since i already have a palm Vx (same as palm v, except it has 8MB) i didnt jump on this one. I bought it for $375 delivered. So getting a palm v at $220 is a steal.

to me this palm pda is worth every penney. i carry it everywhere. in fact, before i go to bed at night, i hot sync my favorite websites (including FATWALLET.ORG forums) right onto the palm. so much easier to read up on the various fatwallet.com posts while lying down in the comfort of my bed at night...but enough digressing.

feel free to email me if any of you have specific questions on the palm v series. suniljm@mail.com thanks everybody for a great website!!

I'm a college student with a Ice Visor and I still not sure if there are any benefits to these things, verus the fact that they are pretty cool to play with and provide amusement for those really boring managerial accounting classes at 7 in the morning. But of course I just got mine.

I did have a Casio PV-200 before and tried jotting down notes with it but it was tough getting them all in there while the teachers lecturing. I ended up not using that guy much more than the solitaire game that was on that one.

I am hoping to pick up that Geode GPS thing so I can get it to find directions (I'm one of those perpetually lost people) so maybe there will be one more use for it. I really wish there was a way I could sync my Visor with my cell phone since I have tons of numbers on there whereas I have almost zlich on the Visor.

Anyhow, I believe the fun factor (as my friend calls it: "I gotta get me one of these mini gameboys") is the main reason for these until I can really get itno the billions of Palm software out there for use. BTW anyone have any tips on good mapping software for Palms out there? Thanks!

both the palm III and v are great but i personally prefer the v as it lokks better and is alot smaller, but yes you can get a palm III series that has more for a better price but to me "size matters" oh and not like godzilla. In this case smaller is better

how2upgrade - i'm a student at UT austin. i just got my handspring visor a week ago (wish i had waited a week to get this) and love it. i bring it everywhere and jot to do notes everywhere. also it's great to use when you need to write down someone's number. oh and yeah, there will be hot chicks asking to know what you are doing.

sunilJM - what software do you use to d/l webpages???

anyone have any recs for software that can write text files and upload them to the computer as a text or word doc?

thanks

Here's the deal. I've been holding out all summer for the Sony CLIE. I can get it from Outpost.com for $350 (participated in the flooz deal last time where I got another $50 free bucks). Or I could order this Palm V from Buy.com, make a new account, use the coupon, pay another $20 to update the OS (is it upgradeable?)

So is the Sony CLIE's jog dial, 18 mb (8mb, 2mb, 8mb), Sony's backing (with their power, I'll be a lot of stuff will be out for the memory stick slot in the CLIE in not time) and the "bragging rights" worth the extra $100?

I don't really need a PDA now... so should I just sit and weight and see what else comes out? I've been hearing all these rumors about how Sony is already thinking of the CLIE "2" since the CLIE one was basically a test.

The only worry I have about the Palm V is the 2mb. Will that hold everything I have? I'm a huge OUTLOOK user. In addition, I heard it's hard to upgrade the os because of the 2mb. Is the Palm V going to be obslete soon? Low memory, and no expansion slots compared to the Handspring and the Sony... gotta think bout the future.

I'm really torn here... what to do? Someone want to convince me on a road I should take? Thanks...

go to www. tech bargains . com (take out the spaces, anandtech is so anal these days, wish everyone would move to fatwallet or dvd talk so i won't have to stop by here anymore...) and click on the coupons section, or just look on the right side, bottom... look for the buy.com coupon and click on it...

I got the Palm V regular version sent to me instead of the international. I'm going to sell either one. Which should I keep, the Palm V or the Palm V international?

Thanks.

I just got mine, but it doesn't say anything about 'international' --

The part number is: 80400apac and the UPC is: 782494 442008 -- is this the international version ?

Thanks

I just got mine. Doesn't say international.

Has anyone gotten one of these, doesn't say international, but opened it to
find out exactly what's inside?

Mine's going on Fleabay, so I need to know. I don't want to open it, though!

thanks.

okay,

i called PALM and they said the item i described above IS the 'international'. The reg palm v is 80400U, this is 80400apac -- also, on the side of the box under 'everything you need is inside this box' it references the voltage for the cradle as 100-240vac

Thanks guys, I thought I had gotten the wrong one, but mine does say 100-240 under the voltage on the AC adapter. Good research as always!! I love this board.

International means that you don't have to buy the adapter when you travel outside the us, that's all. If you look inside the box, you should see 2 additional adapter, a 3 plug and another / \ plug.

Don't misunderstand the palm coming in 50 language or something like that.

You are basically getting the Palm V plus adapter most would never used, but you are getting it for the price, right?

So just say to your self, it's just a Palm V and nothing more, ten plus times and you should get it.
