I just ordered a new laptop for someone in my office from Dell.
They are giving me a free Palm Zire 21.

Just about every review I've read about this thing says that there is a major bug
that erases all your data if the unit is placed next to a cell phone. Palm seems to say
they can't fix it.

Has anyone had any experience with this?
Should I just toss this thing, or Ebay it?

it is the lowest end palm. just use it or give it out as a birthday gift to someone. it is good for organize stuffs.

Not if it gets erased every time your phone rings ;)

Don't put it next to your phone, silly!
Besides, the data is all backed up on the PC. Just re-sync and away you go.

kinda defeats the purpose of having a mobile device, if I have to go back to the PC anyway, no?

Well, it's meant to be an accessory in addition to the pc, not a replacement for it. You still want access to all the addresses and notes on your palm when you're at your computer.

Well hopefully it won't happen often enough to be a nuisance. Besides, if you start using a Palm in earnest, you'll find that you sync it a few times a day anyway.

Well, it arrived today. I'm gonna charge it and then do some experimenting to see if this bug is for real.
