I thinking of buying a Palm sometimes soon, which one should I get, for now I thinking of getting the Tungsten E or Zire 71.

I want to use my PDA more like a mp3 player will probably buy a large SD card for that after.

Also keep contacts and calendar sync to my PC/Notebook (windows/outlook for now, probably linux/??? later).

Maybe able to download web page to view later, ebooks and pdf.

Any comments?

It's a good thing. But output is nowhere as good as a normal MP3 player. Good enough, but I still prefer a dedicated audio device.

I'd go with the E, it has double the memory, and it comes with the latest documents to go (which the zire 71 doesn't have). That doesn't need to computer to convert the word/excel file it reads as is.

The E model looks good but it lacks of a craddle, might be worth it to check out the T2 model then, has bluetooth enable.

I can tell you that the Tungsten E has very loud output and a loud speaker as well.
Yeah for MP3 playing you do not want the Zire71. It's known for its weak volume output... I have one and I've really given up on its mp3 abilities and simply use it as a PIM. Only adv 71 has over the others is its camera imho...

The E doesn't fit the Tungsten T/T2/T3 desk cradle? Did they take out the Palm Universal Connector port on it? Even if so, it's not the end of the world to use a USB hotsync cable to charge/sync it. My Tungsten T doesn't fit in the cradle when I have it in its case anyway, so I usually just charge it via the cable.

I have a Tungsten T, and it's certainly a very capable PDA and a decent MP3 player (though be warned that writing an SD card through the Palm itself is dog-slow; you'll want an external reader/writer if you get more than a 128MB card). The Tungsten E is basically the same thing but without the slide-out Graffiti area, so I'm sure you'd be happy with it.

They took out the Universal Connctor port on the E and it's a mini-USB connection now. I think it's silly why they did that.

How is the battery life of the Tungsten on cnet it says 3h30 min of mpeg4 playback in a loop, so how much should I expect if I use it as an mp3 player?

what about a sony tj35? its about 200 bucks at newegg i think (i bought mine in november for 180 with an MIR), it has a cool mp3 jack at the top that works really well, and if you want to use the onboard speakers, they are decent, although on the botton of the unit, so you have to turn it upside down to listen if you want it loud

one thing....you do need a memory stick instead

I'm in Canada and up here its the same price as the Tungsten E, from the review the E is faster then the Clie and as a better LCD. How's the battery on the CLie?

I have a Zire 71, it's very good. I find more uses for the camera all the time. Yesterday I was taking shots of various BIOS screens as I tuned my new system, it comes in very handy. Plus the screen is frickin beautiful. It isn't really in the class of the Tungstens tho.

Bought a Tungsten E today, should be getting it tomorrow. Now I need to look into a SD card, any SD card would handle mp3s? Any brands are problematic?
