i heard something once about how you can make your handheld into a remote through the ir interface. can somebody point me in the right direction?

I was gonna try it but from everything I've read the IR is so weak that it will only work from within 10 feet or so. So I didn't bother...
 
Actually I think its farther than 10 feet to my TV and it worked fine. Its a bit of a hastle training the palm but its fairly straighforward.
