OK. I JUST DON'T GET IT. I have a freakin' Palm M105. It told me 5 days ago, it was on low battery. I never used it during that time, and today, I've put some new batteries in there, and EVERYTHING IS GONE! :|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|

THAT'S SOME SERIOUS BULLS*IT! I mean..... WTF? They can't be serious!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I'm not a Palm expert, but what did you expect for using that POS. You do have backups right?

It is not mission-critical as I said, but just really frustrating. If you installed a driver which f*cked up the whole system and you need to re-install it.... it's just frustrating.

But that's a whole different deal. If a virus got in here or I had to reformat I would be pissed, I have alot of work related and other important things on this PC.

My point is, it is frustrating, if you have to re-install your whole computer new. Not what the cause is.

Not sure about the m105... It's just the m100 with more memory, correct? So it doesn't have internal batteries, and last I checked, it used those batteries to ensure your data wasn't lost. Leaving dead batteries in the unit has the same affect as removing the batteries for more than a minute... It can't keep your data without power. I can't really see how you can complain about this. If I lose my data, I just sync my palm again, and all is back. Your computer analogy is the same. Anything you want safe, you back up, just to be sure.

I see how I can complain. I don't know if the Ipaq has the same problem. I guess not. For me, it's like if you turn off the TV, the next time you turn it on, you have to reprogram all channels. Well, at least I learned something today.

This is what seems to me as Palm's/Handspring's biggest failure: lack of standard non-volatile storage. I never really
understood why they overlooked this since compactflash and smartmedia have become downright commonplace over the last
3 or 4 years. Perhaps Palm's ex-CEO who was an admitted luddite is to blame for not pushing this feature.

Think how much more useful a Palm or Visor would be if PalmOS had seamless support for non-volatile storage like compactflash.
A 128MB CF card could store lots of detailed GPS maps, for instance. Not to mention you wouldn't have to worry about dead
batteries wiping out everything on the device.

What are you complaining about--just resync your Palm and it should restore all the data.

I have had a Palm IIIx for two years and have never had a loss of data (so I am not totally sure about the re-syncing thing). I ignore battery warnings all the time for many days (even when it says the batteries are getting critical) and have never had it lose my data.

:)
