PDAs nowadays are able to play movies and mp3s. Their capabilities are expandable via software, ya know ?

I did. Hardware features don't mean too much when it's run by a crappy OS. It's $500. That could buy you a nice PocketPC + 4GB MD.

The argument before was about hardware differences. Now that that's obviously up to par, what about the OS ? I'd like to know how it's actually inferior. I'm open.

Crashes, crashes, crashes. How many Palm devices do you support?

A lot of people are into combo devices. Otherwise - cell phone is already one... then you have your keys... do you really want to be carrying around more gadgets ? Some do, but a lot don't.

What if I told you it's crashed for me only twice in the year+ I've had it ? As a palm user seeing hardly any problems, how would you get me to change ?

the reason why palmOS devices "crash" is because not all palm developers actually develop their software for the palm OS or don't test it thoroughly before releasing it to the masses. that's not a flaw for palm; that just means that the users need to be careful before installing buggy third-party software.

yes, mine has never crashed either. i am aware of the complaints though, but that just is bad judgment, and again, not a flaw of the PalmOS.

I am talking about bare-bones, no 3rd party app, Tungstens. Large contact and calendar stores take em down in a flash.

PS--Just wait until your Treos die. I've replaced at least a dozen of them for poor saps who just keep coming back for more disappointment. I've had all but one of my clients to switch to blackberries, that one user just replaced his 600 for the second time. GPRS radio died (yes, not an OS problem, I know). My poor coworker has a client who keeps buying them for their employees. They have Treos, Macs, and Lotus. YUCK! At least the president has hung onto his blackberry.

i had pocketpc and i dropped it in favor of palm. to each his own.

werk: some people have bad luck. my treo isn't dying, rh71's treo isn't dying, my husband's treo isn't dying... and you can always read the discussion on treocentral.com. a minority of folks, if that, has significant problems with their treos.

if i'd go into PC tech support like you go into treo tech support, i'd say the same thing about windows PCs.

I thought it was obvious... change to a PPC based PDA because the PalmOS frequently crashes, crashes, and then crashes - it simply doesn't for me.

About the Treos dying as you witness... I'm a frequent visitor to treocentral and I hardly hear of horror stories like that. I don't doubt what you see can happen, but it's hardly as widespread as you make it out to be.

Hey, use what you want, I'm not out to make any converts.

I'd just like to say that looking for objective advice about Treo reliability from TreoCentral is like doing the same for iPods from iPodLounge. I know that I've seen dozens of Treos come and go, since the 180, and all left both the user and myself with a bad taste in their mouth. Same with the rest of Palm's latest offerings.

n00bs hit Treocentral all the time with questions. If they have a genuine displeasure about a pricey product, they will speak up. I don't think there should be any fanboys in the PDA segment... these are supposed to be productive minds using these things.

Considering that a Axim X50v (624MHz, 64MB RAM/128MB ROM, Bluetooth, WiFi, 640x480, smaller/lighter form-factor) can be had for $377 or less and do way more than this POS, what's the big deal? :D

4GB hard drive? LOL, it's main memory comes off the hard drive. How ridiculous is that? :D

The Windows Mobile platform so outclasses PalmOS that it isn't even funny anymore. Windows Mobile 5.0 only increases the gap.
