Howdy All - this is my first post so please bear with me ;)
I just bought the Palm IIIxe for $90 from Staples. Here's how:

In yesterdays Staples newspaper circular it has a deal that if you buy Desktop To Go (SKU 432106) and Documents To Go (SKU (446794) (which are software applications for the palm) along with the Palm IIIXe (SKU428071) that you can get all three for $149.94

The ad has alot of deatils at the bottom that didn't make sense and the addition on the ad didn't really work out in my mind so I called Staples (1-800-3Staple) and asked about it. The CSR couldn't make the math work either so she "spoke to someone" then came back with the deal that if I bought all three that the total price would be $149.94 plus I would recieve a $30 mfr. mail in rebate. I added an item to get the total over $150, then used a coupon for $30 off $150 I found from a Staples affilliate on-line and the total was $120 - minus the $30 mail-in rebate the grand total comes to $90 - with free shipping - which I thought was a pretty good deal!

The text of the ad is as follows (see if you can figure it out - or not...):

Buy a Plam IIIxe and get both Desktop To Go and Documents to Go FREE after mail-in and instant savings! $99.94 value!

Palm IIIxe Organizer - regular Price 199.98 - $50 savings $149.94

(the fine print) - Staples Price $99.94 for both, less $30 mfr. mail-in rebate when you buy them together. Plus $70 instant savings when purchansed together with this Palm IIIXe Organizer. Code 894-18 expires 3/17/01. Mail-in rebate offer from Dataviz expires 12/31/01. Your final cost FREE.

Thanks! They have the same deal Online, but it's for $169. When you get the Palm IIIxe page at Staples.com, make sure to click on More Info to see all the details.

Sven,

Couple of things.. First off, edit the title of this thread to represent that the price of $90 is after MIR..

Secondly -- how did you get this deal ? Did you call Staples? B&M or thru 1-800-STAPLES? I noticed that on Staples.com the price of the IIIxe is still @ 199.98.. so you probably didn't go thru the web site..

Details ! let us know some details!

thanks,

Read the frickin' Sunday's add, Kid is just excited to post. He will catch on for the people who don't even know what is 'Palm', 'III' and 'Xe' and the software 'Documnets' etc.

God, just post a stupid question or flame the poster to get seniority.
'cause of this some nice people are not bothered to even posting a good deal.

- If you think there is a better deal, reply/post.
- If you think the product is crap, then explain why.
- If you like the deal and need more info use kind words like Please..
or PM me with details ... etc..

You guys are scaring everyone...
What the hell is going on...

OK..... I am cool now.. Where is my 4ht cup of coffee...

Just got off the phone with a CSR now. Check out Item# 428071, Palm iiixe, then click on the Red "MORE INFO" button near the center of the screen.

The current offer is the Palm IIIxe for $170 + DataViz Desktop(432106) and Docu To Go(446794) for free. He's right: the math doesn't add up and the CSR had to speak with her manager like 3 times before she could figure out that she should just "adjust" it for me. The deal is:

$200 PalmIIIxe
$50 Doc to go
$50 Desk to go
-$70 coupon (meaning can't use my own)
-$30 MIR

=$200, which still isn't $170. Someone forgot to pass algebra.

Anyway, in the end she told me I could order it online and then call them when I got email confirmation to get a price adjust of $30. She also suggested it could be something with my "local Staples store" instead. How you got it for $90 befuddles me, but you damn lucky boy. :p

Hey hey.. didn't mean any disrespect.. I'm actively looking for this PDA and when I saw $90 it picqued my interest.. But I couldn't discern how he came up with his figures..

Sorry if my tone came across as disrespectful, nothing of the sort..

I think a better deal would be to pricematch with best buy and then apply a coupon.. should be 159 - 30 coupon = 129 + tax..

but I'm waiting to see if Staples is going to lower the price on their own..

Link to Best Buy..

cheers,

I had the same experience as Sensor:

Could not make sense of the webpage, Called CSR who would update my order, or actually order for me in realtime, but I could not use my own coupon.

Still interested in a $90 price, if anybody can figure it out

Thanks

Sven lucked out and got a CSR with no math and/or reading skills.

The deal is supposed to work like this:

You buy IIIxe for $149 (interesting that it is $149 for him - Washington, DC Staples ads says $169 for the same deal), then you add Documents to Go and Desktop to Go for $100, then you get $70 off instant savings, then you get $30 MIR for the software. So, the theory is that you pay $149 + $100 - $70 = $179 and then get the $30 back.

Sven managed to get a CSR with no math skills who gave him $149 for the deal instead of $179, so after $30 MIR and $30 coupon he got the deal for $90. I doubt other people could get this, because this is just a mistake on CSR part, so not only would you have to get same CSR, but also hope that CSR didn't figure out what the mistake was meanwhile.

Tried some coupon codes. So here's what it looks like as of now:

Palm IIIxe $199.98
Desktop to Go $49.97
Docs to Go $49.97

Offer Coupon -$70.00
$30 off Coupon -$30.00
$30 MIR -$30.00

Total $169.92 + tax

Note that Offer Coupon is posted on Staples webpage so I assume it's safe to post the code here (89646). I tried the $40 off $200 coupon but it says my total isn't enough. Maybe try a different code? Didn't go through all of them, find those here. Also note that the Palm IIIxe is still $199.98 on the webpage which is regular price. Offer states that it should be $169.98, not sure if this is taking into account the MIR or not. Check out the details here. If in fact it is supposed to be $169.98 for just the Palm IIIxe, then call a CSR and get them to bring it down another $30.00. That would make the total $139.92. If you can get the $40 off $200 that's another $10, drops to $129.92.

my staples ad also says 149.94 (sacramento,CA.)

so i se it like this

149.94 palm
50.00 software 1
50.00 software 2
----------------
249.94 total
-70.00 instant rebate
-30.00 Mir
-30.00 coupon
----------------
119.94

but i dont see how we can get it for less than that, unless you use a 40 off 200 coupon and argue that the price before instant rebate is what they should take as total?

How about them Kings?

Anyone have an ad they can scan and post, or at least put the text for the details of this ad here so we can all figure out what the heck is going on?
