I am thinking about buying this PDA and I wanted to know if it is possbile to upgrade the memory? I have never owned a PDA and I think the above would be fine for me to start with. I can get it for under $100.

Thank for any input

I like my m500. The IIIc has one flaw in my opnion, low battery life. It's much more limited then the grayscale palms. I picked my m500 for $150, and I strongly reccomend it.

my m500 hardly ever runs out of battery...i use it everyday and i never have to charge it during the day..just at night. i love it. if i could any palm tho...i would get that one with the colored screen 🙂

I have a Palm IIIc for about a year and a half before I opened it. Low and behold the LCD was not working. Called PAlm and they stated only 1 year warranty!!!!!!! Problem with the dead LCD is common according to them. They said it will cost $70 to fix, so I told them to kiss it. Don't get a Palm IIIC. And $100 is not a deal, that's how much they are brand new now.

Broken LCDs ARE a common problem with any H/PC, and the warranty on them IS limited, and the replacement cost IS a lot of money.

That's not a IIIc problem, it's one of the risks of the technology. Glass breaks.

I think I'd hold out for an m130 if you must have color. It comes in the newer, smaller form factor and you could probably get one new for like $150.

Of course glass breaking is a risk. I said the unit was basically DOA on opening up the box. When I worked at the IMF 2 years a go we deployed about 150 of them 12 of them were DOA. About 16-20 more came back for "not turning on" within 5 months. Turned out that the LCDs went bad. Look at all the forums on PDAs and you will see that it is a common problem for the Palm IIIc lcd to just "go bad".
