Too bad, I thought the pre was pretty sexy and a good example of how phones should be designed. I'll take the pre's hardware design over the iphone or just about any android on windows mobile phone
The OS didn't look bad either, but it was obvious it had no future in a world of iphone and android. Android seems to rapidly be copying the good ideas of any other phone OS, and iphone has the cool mainstream factor. And blackberry basically flooded the market with low cost smart phones, not much left for palm.

Still, with the way the market is being flooded with smart phones, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not long before almost everyone owns one. The cell companies need to do something about the mandatory data plans though (drop the requirement, or reduce the cost).

Or have tiers so you don't pay the same regardless of whether you're using a 3-year-old Blackberry Pearl or a brand new Nexus One.

This is where I think Palm can still have a niche market. It doesn't seem like ANYONE is shooting for a nice compact form factor. Everyone is about the big touch screen. Unfortunately for Palm, they don't have any chances left and haven't executed to pull it off. I'm still hanging on and hoping for a miracle though.
