I'm just wondering, if you let the battery dry, does full dataloss occur?

I neglected to recharge my Clie and it seems I've lost everything and its reverted back to default. I want to know if this is a general Palm thing or another entry to my Sony Sh-tlist...

I put it in the cradle to charge. Then I pressed the Sync button repeatedly and nothing happend. I turned on the Clie and it was reverted back to Default Settings a programs. I dug up the original USB cable that came with the device and did a HotSync and I restored all my Apps and Files from last Sync. I am missing though about a 2 weeks worth of on and off data from my last Sync to the battery drainage...
