palit 4850 problems

Ive been having problems with my nearly 2 month old palit 4850. Red vertical lines appear before I enter windows; the screen also gets artifacts every so often--this happens practically everytime I use any gpu stress test. please help. Thanks. Heres my set up:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8g
Asus P5Q
Kingston 2x1gb ddr2 pc800
Palit HD 4850
1 hitachi 400gb sata hdd
1 western digital 160gb sata hdd
535w enermax fmaII
an old 500w logic avr

Check for the obvious: Dust, overheating, etc......

Are you at stock clocks?

Underclock your RAM and see if that helps.

i havent underclocked the ram...i switched back to my old x850xt for the meantime. i'll try your suggestion next week but thanks!
