Dec 18th, 2008 | ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin would not accept a pay raise recommended by a state compensation commission, according to a spokesman.

The State Officers Compensation Commission, appointed by the former GOP vice-presidential candidate, recommended boosting the governor's pay from $125,000 to $150,000. It also suggested raises for the lieutenant governor, department heads and legislators.

If the commission follows through with the pay raise, Palin will not accept the money, spokesman Bill McAllister said.

"Her view is, it's just not appropriate to accept a pay raise in the middle of the term," McAllister said.

Palin is in her first term. It ends in 2010.

The Alaska Legislature created the five-member commission this year to decide how much top state officials should be paid. Two members are recommended by legislative leaders.

The group announced its early suggestions this week and planned a public hearing Thursday.

Palin makes 46 percent more than her predecessor, Frank Murkowski, and her pay ranks roughly in the middle among U.S. governors.
But I wonder if she's still collecting per diem while living at home? That's the real "F you, taxpayers!"

Why is it bad that she collects money for working from home? The alternative is to spend more money commuting to the capital that is in the middle of nowhere. She is actually saving money by doing this.

Wrong...the family charges the state for travel expenses from Wasilla to State functions in Juneau.
It's really hard to hear her speak of "conservatism" and fiscal policy whose mouth is still full from feasting at the Public Trough.

Per Diem payments for Government Officials is bad policy. With little or no oversight or auditing, it's unbelievable that any conservative worth his pinstripes would allow such procedures. At least they wouldn't in THEIR company, but for politicians? Well they can be trusted, they only have the public's intrests in mind.

Because the per diem for being away from the capitol (notice the 'o') is supposed to compensate the governor for the price of a hotel room and meals out.

She's not supposed to stay home and just pocket the damn money. It's a misuse of the per diem's intended purpose.

gee, I think this is up to the people of Alaska to decide don't you?

WTF do you care how she does her job as long as it gets done and since you are not a resident how she does or does not do her job has no impact on you.

You didn't care BEFORE she was nominated and put in the spot light...why the fuck should you now?

Any talk of raises is simply toxic right now. She did what she had to do to keep/gain voters. It's as simple as that. If the climate for raises wasn't so toxic, she'd have gladly taken the raise.

Liberals aren't happy unless they have completely destroyed their opponents.. or been paid off by them.. either way, they don't quit.

"The people of Alaska", through their government, have already decided, sparky. A per diem is meant to reimburse road expenses, not to pocket while living at home. She's a small time piker.

AND this petty larceny of hers isn't about what I think, or what YOU think I should be allowed to care about. I care about government misfeasance at all levels and in all juridictions, and YOU, sport, don't get to tell me otherwise.

Caribou Barbie is a garden level gummint teat sucker. This goes right hand in glove with her inability to speak coherently and her appalling national and international ignorance.

Sarah Palin is a monument to dimbulb mediocrity and mendacity.

So if you are hired on to a job but before they post the opening they increase the pay range for that position it means you were given a raise?

Give me a break Dave, you are a FUCKING IDIOT.
