All the evidence available suggest you're just repeating a nonsense lie.

What happened is the former Illinois State Senator Alice Palmer chose the house of Bill Ayers as the place where she would announce that she was endorsing Obama to succeed her after she invited a number of influential individuals within the community to a meeting at the house.
http://obama.wikia.com/wiki/Bi...s_election_controversy

The available evidence doesn't even suggest Obama had met Ayers at this point, or make it clear he knew anything about Ayers' background at that date, and it was Alice Palmer who picked the house in question to host the meeting. (Not to mention when you get a retiring State Senator to give you her endorsement for that senate seat, you're generally not going to be picky about what house she picks.) There is a utter lack of evidence any fund raising whatsoever took place at the meeting in question other than a couple of unsupported claims which have been repeated in a few places.

While this occurred in 1995, Bill Ayers didn't give any donations to Obama and any of his campaigns until 2001 when he gave a 200 dollar one, which isn't so surprising since they happened to be on the same board of a charity as purely professional colleagues at the time.

Given this is written by someone in NYT, it's probably biased for Obama. Still, it doesn't look as bad as it should. Obama did lie about his association with Ayers in one of the debates though.

Now let's talk about how Obama squandered 100 million in Chicago with nothing to show for...

throw in the bridge to nowhere and we see both get us the same....or rather....nowhere.

That's a highly questionable assertion.

You can argue he played down his association excessively with one of his statements, but it wouldn't fall under the category of an actual lie by most standards given at least what we currently know about the association.

He said he didn't know Ayers well and that he was just someone who lives in the neighborhood AFAIK in the democratic debates. Which part of that isn't lying if the guy has clearly worked with Ayers on more than 1 occasion?

He also said that and that Ayers was "not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis." However I would say it still doesn't fall under the category of an actual lie by most standards given Obama's point was they were not that close and friends, and never claimed anything like he had absolutely no association ever with Ayers. "Just some guy in the neighborhood" can still mostly apply to someone even if you happened to work with him to some degree while involved with charities of mutual interest.

Keep spinning. Fact of the matter is that if this happened to ANY OTHER politician y'all would be going nuts over it. The media and Obama supporters have been ignoring his skeletons in the closet for the longest time and it is absolutely sickening. Double standard at its best.

I don't like the McCain ticket so much anymore. I'll probably end up throwing my vote away to a 3rd party, but the idea of an Obama presidency is truly frightening.

more tragic than that, she supports the "Russia is bad, secular humanist
Europe is bad, if you want to be right with Jesus you have to support Israel"
version of faux Christian theology that is widespread in Christian churches.
e.g. the Prophecy lectures by Pastor Bob at the Horizon Christian Fellowship
in Rancho Santa Fe.

having lived in their midst for about 8 years and worked at a defense contractor
while i was doing it, i got familiar with the "let's go kill some Muslims !" version
of Christianity. that is the version Palin follows, those are the people she works for.

Well said. Obama seems to have more skeletons in his closet than P&N has partsian-blinded liberals. Maybe Obama should write a 3rd autobiography but make it a hostile biography detailing his many slimy corrupt and fringe friends. It would sell like hotcakes.

*sigh*

This is what it's going to be like until the election. McCain's desperate now, he will go into full bore smear mode. We will see an endless parade of new attack ads, each one worse than the last.

Obama's chickens are coming home to roost.

That said, Obama does have an advantage in that his attack ads are nearly cost-free, care of the mainstream media.

Maybe he's old and addled enough that we'll get lucky, and he'll go into Smores and beer mode, instead.

Thank God we have Fox News to keep things straight! God bless Rupert Murdoch and Sean Hannity!!!!!

No I honestly would not.

We're talking about someone who as far as we can tell had purely the relationship of professional colleagues while Obama was working with a couple of charities and as a result worked with someone who happens to have an unsavory background in the past. Many would argue there was nothing wrong at all period with such a relationship as long as Obama believed Ayers was no longer engaged in problematic activities and was now simply involved with doing good works. Redemption is actually a very Christian belief regarding past sinners.

I view the aggressive attacks on Obama in this area as flat out the products of insinuation and slander. (Claiming Obama is "pals" with Ayers when the available evidence points to the contrary if anything.)

Even the MSM has some sense of fairplay and honesty, so, yeh, they'll likely point out the outright lies and inaccuracy in McCain's deceptions. Obama's as well, but he hasn't been fielding nearly so much of it.

So what's next in the circular jerk of rightwing attacks? Rezko, or the sekrit mooslim thing? Or the "Elitist!" shit-fest?

Or will they exhort the mindless faithful with "One of Us!" "POW" or just go straight to the "USA!USA!USA!" chant so as to drown out anything they don't want to hear?

It must be really painful for people who thought McCain had some integrity to watch him sell his soul one bit at a time in this narcissistic I'll-say-anything bid to be president. Might even lead them to believe that there never was any integrity, just a lot of posturing from one of the greatest photo-opportunists ever in politics...

Well McCain has come out and effectively said that he will focus on character assassination for the rest of the campaign. With that in mind I'm sure you will see a Rezko ad, if this Ayers ad gets any traction you'll see more of those, things like that. The only one I'm not sure about (but will probably come out if things keep going this badly for McCain) is Rev. Wright. I'm sure McCain doesn't want to invite any more scrutiny of that video of Palin and the 'witch hunter'.

I feel pretty okay about this though because earlier in the summer McCain's ads got him in trouble for the outrageous lies in them. This will help inoculate Obaba against these new smears because now there's a sense out there that McCain lies a lot.

The next thing you know, the McCain campaign will reveal that Senator Biden is a member of a religious cult with an "infallible" leader who is a former member of the Hitler Jugend!

Palin's already admitted she's a member of a religious cult with an "infallible" leader that exorcise witches and believes that human beings co-existed with dinosaurs.

Crazy.

This.

Hopefully Obama will come out and attack back, dont let it slide like Kerry did with the swift boating.

Actually I'd love to see McCain get more aggressive in the debates, will only shift independents away from him.
