I was one of those donors this morning.(First time making a donation in 10 years) Palin's speech last night was said to have "energized" the Republican base? I hope it did because it sure energized the Democrats way more.

Lupi's right about one thing: Dem's (and all rational, thinking people) are scared shitless of the prospect of this woman being one 72 year old cancer ridden heart beat away from president.

"McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, raised $10 million after Palin was selected as his running mate Aug. 29, part of his record $47 million haul last month." Link

Umm, August 29 - today = how many days? (it's 7 days, if you exclude August 29 and the night she actually gave the speech)

Looks like AP has updated their article:

"Barack Obama reported raising at least $10 million from more than 130,000 donors today after Palin, the Alaska governor, addressed the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, and criticized the Democratic presidential nominee."

Palin McLame '08

Damn right I am. I love this country too much to hand it over to someone who wanted to secede from it.

AP article tries to create the impression that Palin McLame '08 matched Obama, when, in fact, they raised -> WSJ overnight.

The brain dead fundies are salivating over the thought that one of their goons is in line for the Presidency.

Hedge fund managers?

(Average donation to Obama overnight seems to have been about $65)

Yep, it will buy lots of adds, but it won't buy any significant experience or achievements, so it's still the empty suit with adoring crowds.

I can't find a link for the Obama total or the McCain total, other than the ones in this thread.

Anyone have any idea where one can find a non-biased source for this stuff?

If you don't like the facts, just ignore them.

Bush would be so proud! :D

No, anyone with a brain is scared shit-less of this woman becoming president, or VP for that matter.

I believe McCain can no longer raise funds since the start of the convention, since he is accepting public funds. Whatever his total is, it's now on its way downhill (and if memory serves it is MUCH less than Obama).

Actually McCain can raise funds, but not for his own use.

I think he either raises the funds for RNC or he raises them himself and then gives them to the RNC.

I think the law is about what money they can spend, not what money they can raise. Will need to look into this.

You're right, I believe, but I think there are limits (ironically from McCain-Feingold) on the national committee's ability to use the money for McCain-specific advertising. If memory serves Obama was WAY ahead of McCain on fundraising anyway - his numbers have shattered all previous records - so I'm quite sure his campaign coffers dwarf McCain's.
