When informed about the hacking of his running-mate's email account, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) demanded an immediate inquiry to determine the make and model of hatchet used in the breach.

"My friends, in these trying times, we cannot let the Islamofascists posess such a destructive weapon," he said.

Anything passing through a server unencrypted is hackable.

Online e-mail accounts use a secured line if NOT accessed via a proxy.

NEVER use a proxy to log in to your mail accounts unless you use a program on your computer that uses PGP or something similar to encrypt data.

Seems to be a personal account... so what? I don't see any evidence that she conducted state business with that account. "gov.palin" is pretty stupid though. I would've been more discreet than that. Edit: sucks that she got hacked though.

The addressbook had her aides and others explicitly listed as "personal" or "state of Alaska." Unless she innocently micromanages enough to make sure she doesn't use up state bandwidth by sending her aides pictures of cute kittens, it seems that she was very aware of where things were coming from and going to.

Sounds totally legit to me, though.

I e-mailed my boss today from my personal e-mail account as I was out at a client site... OMG, I should burn in hell for that!

It's common knowledge that she conducted business on it.

Well, if that's true then that changes everything. I just heard of this issue so I didn't know.

How can one even consider voting for any ticket with Palin on it?
That woman is a national security risk with judgment of a 5 year old.

because she used yahoo for her personal e-mail? I don't think the SS will let her put the launch codes on digg or anything... way to draw a conclusion.

So you have never seen anyone else use something from their profession as part of their username for a personal e-mail (or Technology Forum) account, postmortemIA?

Those e-mails were deleted by her handlers 5 minutes after she was picked by McCain.

At least that's what I would do if I was a corrupt Republican governor from Alaska hiding ethics violations.

She used that account for her official business email. Her aids have had to remind people (via emails that came out through FOIA) that her 'official' email address wasn't the one she used for -anything-.

For those curious how the account got hacked, apparently all the person needed to do in order to change the password for the email account was correctly identify Sarah Palin's birth date (which is easily found on her Wikipedia entry among other places) and then put in Wasilla's zip code to answer the "zip code" question.

She didn't exactly have an effective security setup on the account.

What the fuck are YOU talking about?

What does having some MountainDew stained t-shirt kid hijacking Saint Sarah's Yahoo email have to do with the "dems," and their relation to "independent soccer moms."

Are you suggesting that the DMC or the Obama campaign is behind the hacking and the news stories?

No, I doubt it was the DNC or Obama. But I would guess it was a MountainDew stained t-shirt leftie that did it. And it was certainly mainstream dems that spread it around (note poster). And mainstream dems have no problem with it, and are cheering it on, and are dissapointed they didn't find any dirt. So it's merely a symptom of the stupid anti-Palin tactics that are converting independents.
