But right now, the rest of the world is giving Israel some time to straighten up their act, so hence the Gaza problem is now off front page news, but failing that satisfactory Israeli response, there will be likely be a new chapter two, three, and all the required subsequent chapters required to get a just mid-east peace.

....or, as has happened basically every time before in the arab/palestinian- israeli conflict, this minor point of conflict will fall from the headlines in a short amount of time (as it already has), and soon be forgotten, serving as a great example of the general failure of the international community to actually do something useful in this decades-old conflict.

Or the international community will actually do something.......yeah......don't make us laugh.......

Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying this is necessarily good, but the failure of the international community is pretty much beyond debate at this point, is it not?

Who am I to call imported screech wrong?

But on the other hand, the international community has been kicking the can down the road, for 62 years now, and if now more worried than ever that all it takes is the right spark, and the entire mid-east power keg will blow sky high.

And its prior support of Israel is getting no where closer to defusing the mid-east powder keg.

In short, I will not call imported screech right either.

But to give you two famous US examples, as initial try #1, the US tried to resolve slavery with our ideals, and as Lincoln remarked, 4 score and seven years ago, the shit finally hit the fan as the can could no longer be kicked an inch further down the road. As try number 2 became Jim Crow segregation, and right about on schedule, the shit hit the fan on that one too.

Of course Fatah is upset- they lost the election to Hamas, then staged a bloody coup with US and Israeli support, only got half of what they wanted...

They and the Israelis desperately want Hamas to fail to govern, and will do whatever they can to make that happen... regardless of the impact on the people of Gaza...

right now, they're fronting for the Israelis, hoping to get something meaningful in return... fat chance of that...

If they succeed in removing Hamas, taking over admin of Gaza, then the Israelis will just go back to demonizing them, like they've done for decades.

That's not what the Israelis want, anyway. They want the pals divided, so they can avoid negotiating with either faction. If a Gandhi-like figure emerged among the pals, the Israelis would probably take him out with a hellfire missile from an Apache helicopter... claim self defense...

And I do not disagree; I simply think that, to extend your civil war analogy, a war will start as a result of the existing conflict before there is any kind of lasting peace in the region as a result of international intervention of any substance. In a world of CYA, the safest course of action is to do nothing until it is too late, and I see no reason that doesn't apply here.....I think Russia ironically would be a good 3rd party here because they have reason to hate everyone/be hated by everyone in the conflict, but that's for another thread.
