As per the title. Did not read the notes, but was a big update. Anyone running PM will get it in a few.

Release notes: http://www.palemoon.org/releasenotes-ng.shtml

Jus C it says changed default search engine to Duck Duck Go, but I use IXquick so this part did not apply to me. I tried Duck, but liked IX better. Neither one tracks you!!!

I sped thru the notes, this appears an important update.

indeed! the best browser just got even better and snappier

change log:

24.4.1 (2014-03-19)

A small security and bugfix release.

Fixes/changes:

  • Bugfix: the new status bar code in 24.4.0 had a bug, preventing the downloads panel/window from opening when clicking on the download status indicator. There may have been a few other, similar small usability bugs in the same code that have now been fixed.
  • Feature update: Selecting "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" in the Options window will now apply both to closing a window and closing other tabs in the tab bar.
  • Bug #940714 - Add an RAII class to make synchronous raster image decoding safer.
  • Bug #896268 - Use a stateless approach to synchronous image decoding. security fix
  • Bug #982909 - Consistently use inner window when calling OpenJS. security fix
  • Bug #982957 - Fix crash if certain sweeps run out of memory. security fix
  • Bug #982906 - Remove option for security bypass in URI building. security fix
  • Bug #983344 - JavaScript: Simplify typed arrays and fix GC loops. security fix
  • Bug #982974 - Be paranoid about neutering ArrayBuffer objects. security fix
24.4.0 (2014-03-10)

This update changes the new title behavior slightly and updates a lot of things under-the-hood.

Fixes/changes:

  • By popular request: the new page title (when using the Pale Moon App button) will now follow the operating system default alignment (in most cases), meaning it will align left on Windows Vista and Windows 7 by default instead of center. If you want to hide the title or align it differently, please see the FAQ section on the forum.
  • Updated status bar code to the latest "non-australis" version and license change to MPL 2.0 to bring it in line with the rest of the browser code, making it an integral part of the source tree to streamline building (also for 3rd parties).
  • Changed the way Pale Moon handles file and protocol associations. This will prevent interoperability issues if you have both Firefox and Pale Moon installed on the same system. A side effect is that Pale Moon will ask you (once) to make it the default browser again when you install this update, because of the new associations to be made.
  • Changed the search default to DuckDuckGo.
  • Added DuckDuckGo logo to about:home.
  • Changed some things in the build system, back-end code and build configuration to improve overall performance of the browser.
  • Switched to the use of a more compact browser filesystem layout, improving overall start-up speed.
  • Precompiled script cache in the application, improving overall start-up speed at the expense of some disk space.
  • Added MPS detection for non-windows operating systems (NSPR fallback method) instead of always "1".
Bugfixes ported over:

  • bug #968461 - Fix imgStatusTracker.h to build with gcc 4.4.
  • bug #912322 - Make sure document.getAnonymous* is no longer available to web content.
  • bug #894448 - Move IsChromeOrXBL to xpcpublic.h.
Security fixes:

  • bug #963198 - Don't mix up byte-size and array-length.
  • bug #966311 - Calculate frame size for stereo wave.
  • bug #958867 - Consistent OwningObject handling in IDBFactory::Create methods.
  • bug #925747 - Patch file extraction cleanup.
  • bug #942152 - Fix error handling on NSS I/O layer.
  • bug #960145 - IonMonkey: Don't ignore OSR-like values when computing phi ranges.
  • bug #965982 - Clean up client threads before I/O on shutdown.
  • bug #950604 - Backport of a small typed array bugfix.
  • bug #967341 - Fix up URI management.
  • bug #963974 - Null mCurrentCompositeTask after calling Cancel() on it.

O! Makes me happy U like it too! Cause I felt terrible Ketchup79 hated it.:'(
Never knew about this! Thanks so much babe!!

I never liked DuckDuckGo as I wasn't pleased with its search results and the fact that it has to go to Google to grab images/videos. But IXQuick has all that built in so I'm a happy camper

default engine changed :)

I din like Duck either. I agree, IX rocks, but it's in no way graphically cool as defined by Google. For me, that it is basic, no glut, pragmatic, and free of what many people like, is a GOOD thing.

Quick questions:

1) Firefox extensions work on Pale Moon right? I just need three extension, Adblock Plus, Flashblock, and Session Manager.

2) Is the searching function global? Meaning, unlike the current Firefox, if I jump to a different web page the search box doesn't disappear. Sometimes I'm doing research and I'm searching a specific term across multiple tabs and FF's current search will disable the search box if you switch to a different tab.

2) whaaaa?? that never happens

you can migrate your profile to pale moon if you're lazy, but to fully benefit from the full speed and optimization. I suggest you uninstall FF, delete all mozilla folders in the users folder\appdata\local and roaming

then install pale moon and start out fresh.

I give you my personal guarantee, you will never go back to FF after using it for 10 mins

The extensions I use do; I try to keep them to a minimum. In order to get my Lavafox red theme to work I hadda get an add on called "Style."

I would suggest you get PM and try it and see if it suits your particular need. If not, U just uninstall it. Had i not bened a member of this colmmunity, i doubt I ever would have learned about it. Only by getting and trying it, was I able to get its reality and that it is right for me.

Being cautious once in a great while, I got PM and migrated everything to it from FF, used it for a week, fell in love, and then, uninstalled FX. And not one problem doing that.

I ditto this guarantee. Cept more like two days before U R like "Wut was I thinking re FX?"

Your experience is the same as mine except it took barely 30 minutes before I was thinking: "Didn't realize how much Firefox UI sucks".

Very pure vintage post IE-6 Firefox experience that Mozilla had before they lost their mojo so they could copy Google instead of leading.

I just downloaded Pale Moon and installed a few minutes ago, I guess it was the new version because I got it from the horse's mouth. I backed up my previous version a week ago, installed an SSD on this machine over the weekend, installed Windows 7. So, after installing Pale Moon tonight I downloaded the backup/restore utility, closed Pale Moon and restored from the backup. Voila! My browser's up to snuff.

Thanks for the heads up on the update. I have been putting off updating since late last year.

P.S. In addition to the two mentioned search engines you all may also like Startpage. https://startpage.com/

Will PM and FF reside happily in the same [W7pro] environment? I'm in no short supply of system resources and would like to give PM a try, but frankly wouldn't care to uninstall FF unless I feel radicalized to do so.

EXACTLY. and, other day I read online the new head of Mozilla has some very Eeeeeewwwww right wing religious affiliations and evidence is presenting he is intensely, pro-actively homophobic. To me, all bigotry is evil and whatever form it takes, it's all the same evil.

I will now try to get a link. Hold on.....

k....can't yet find the link to what I saw, but I found a related one from last summer:

http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?p=26506741

I am going to keep looking until i find that much better one from few days ago.

K....here's another one I never saw:

https://************/mcclure111/comments-on-brendan-eich-becoming-ceo-of-mozilla

Not to be be-atchy, but say the guy's surname: is a cat throwing up a hairball, right?:sneaky:

K, here's yet another one, not the original one I saw.....
http://weblog.lonelylion.com/2014/03/30/more-context-on-brendan-eichs-appointment-to-ceo/

It is wut it is, and, what it is is UGLY.

K, I think this is the one I saw....but, I think an updated version, cause it hadda be earlier than the 31 of Mar when I came upon it. But almost positive it was on Huffington.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/31/okcupid-mozilla_n_5065743.html?utm_hp_ref=technology

Seriously? Stone age, pernicious, hate-filled merda. I am soooooooo happy---now, more than ever--- I learned about PM here and left FX in the dust.

All bigotry is The Enemy!!!

And get, this guy with the hair ball spewing surname did not appoint HIMSELF CEO.
