I'm bout to buy a new CPU, but according to my motherboard's latest BIOS updates, it only supports up to an Athlon XP 2100 Palamino. Most sites I see sell the 2100 Tbred, not the Palamino. Does this mean the Tbred won't work on my mobo? Anyone know a place that sells the 2100 Palamino?

My mobo is an Asus A7M266 btw.

Hi GrdLock2002.
I have an MSI 6382 mATX mobo with a KT266a chipset.
I have an XP2200+ t-bred B I ran in it.
It showed up as unknown processor on bootup at 1800 mhz which is the correct mhz for the 2200.
It ran just as fast as my other motherboards that supported the chip.
I have read that the processor ID can be cosmetic on some boards.
Maybe someone knows if there is any difference between the Palamino and the T-bred besides 18m and 13m.

I have a Tbred running on an old KG7, so I doubt you will have issues. The main issue is the multiplies offered by the board, not the core revision.

Socket A is Socket A.

Not all boards can handle T-breds. I know at least one KT266A-based board by Lucky-Star that can't handle the T-breds. Apparently, a socket type is not the only thing that needs to be compatible/supported with newer cpu's. You'll probably have less compatibility issues w/ name-brand mfgs. such as Asus, Abit & MSI but there are smaller board mfgs. that sometimes cut corners in board designs to save costs, and as a result, certain boards cannot accomodate newer socket A cpu's. Another KT266A board that can't handle the T-breds is Leotec's XP, the first version. It can handle palominos fine though.
