PAL8045 + Papst fan => 'No CPU fan' warning at POST

As the title says, I just installed an Alpha 8045 heatsink with a 80mm Papst fan on my MSI-KT266A Pro2.

The Papst fan only has 2 wires, so there is no RPM monitoring.

And now, every time I boot the machine, the BIOS freaks out and bugs me about a missing CPU fan. It continues booting after I press 'N', so I guess it is just a minor annoyance, but does anybody know what I should do to convince my mobo that there really IS a fan on there??

I have a feeling this question is really simple, but any help will be much appreciated :)

Look in your manual. It will tell you that the CPU fan has to be plugged into a certain fan header (usually #1). The manual should even have a picture of the motherboard and tell you exactly which header to plug it into.

If that doesn't work (which probably won't since you don't have the monitoring on the fan, which I believe the BIOS checks for the RPM of the fan when booting...), then go here. It's the list of BIOS updates for your board. If you notice under the BIOS Ver 3.2, it says:

<< -Add "CPU Fan Detection" item in hardware monitor setup. Set this as disable if you connect your fan directly to the power supply >>

That's what you want. You may need to upgrade your BIOS. Instructions for that and the needed files can be found here

What BIOS version are you using?

Hope that helps.

Excellent!

I thought the problem was much more simple than a faulty BIOS, so I didn't even think to check for that, hehe...

Thanks a lot!

go to your hardware/temp monitoring page in your bios. There will be an option to disable cpu fan monitoring. This is the only way around your problem I know of.
