PAL to NTSC dvd player?

I just ordered this dope movie from HK flix - it's PAL only (but region free) so I need a good dvd player that converts from PAL to NTSC. I do have a dvd-rw drive but would like to watch this on a tv..

Thanks!

The movie is 2046 by Wong Kar Wei and will not be shown in the U.S.

Most modern TV's should do PAL & NTSC. My JVC (OK, it's a UK model) does NTSC (all colour modes) 60Hz, PAL 50hz, PAL 60hz and switches on the fly depending on the signal type. It even has picture setting profiles which PWNS for Console and DVD specific settings.

Well, the DVD player will no doubt flip between PAL & NTSC, but you should check this if possible. Your TV will have to cope with whatever signal the DVD player spits out, so it would need to handle PAL in this case. Stand alone PAL<>NTSC conversion kit usually expensive, so having equipment that does each native is hella cheaper.

This is usually the case now beacuse all TV and DVD IC's are world market parts with the relevant defaults set. For example, my Philips DVD player has around 7 different Manufacturer menu and backdrop GFX and settings for each region that those models would go to. When haxoring it to be fully unlocked it bacame a LOEWE Systems unit, a high end German make.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. It can and does happen, although it is very rare 😉

to clarify, if the DVD player can handle the REGION and the COLOUR SYSTEM, thats good. Then your TV must ALSO be able to handle the COLOUR SYSTEM. Essentially, everything would default to PAL automatically and you would enjoy your movie. This is what happens when I view NTSC DVD's. My player goes NTSC, so then the TV does too and I enjoy my pr0n, er, I mean movie.
