I have a cooling problem with my PAL 8045. It only gets full CPU die contact when hot!. I get wild temp fluctuations until about 46 degress C. After that, all is fine, and it won't move past 47 C. for anything. The temps are checked by diode against the CPU, and one on the HS for comparison. They both show the fluctuations till around 47 C. The readings posted are from the bios, via SANDRA

I was wondering if just adding another tensioner washer to the springs would take up the slack, or does someone have a better way?

What kind of fluctuations are you talking about? I don't think I would fool with the washers, as I wouldn't want to crush the cpu. Were your screws tightened properly in a criss-cross pattern?

On my PAL8045 I use three plastic washers per springbolt and I've only broken three CPUs in half so far! :) JUST KIDDING, I haven't had any trouble with three per bolt. Do be careful to tighten the bolts down about 1/2 turn at a time in a criss-cross pattern so they tighten down gradually and evenly.

Maybe it's the sequence, comfounded by the fact that I have only two shims per side. I've been too rough with the tighening, and just snug it up, criss-cross. I guess it would explain the cahnges, each time I remove the HS for another hare-brained scheme.

Thanks for he tips!!!
