My doctor is from Pakistan and the guy I buy my smokes from is also. Even though they would probably be at odds with each other, I have known each other for years and are great people. My smokes guy has even invited me over for supper and although I didn't quite care for the food, a lot of laughs and warmth were shared.

Both of them have family and friends in the affected areas, and my doc will be leaving soon to go back to help. He's going to be taking a bunch of aid along with him put together by the local Pakistani community and I tossed a little box of stuff he suggested.

Hopefully things don't get a lot worse over there, but it looks like it will.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urges foreign donors to speed up aid and warns of more destruction.

Hundreds of villages across Pakistan in an area roughly the size of Italy have been marooned, highways have been cut in half and thousands of homeless people have been forced to set up tarapaulin tents along the side of roads.

Up to 1,600 people have been killed, two million made homeless and public anger has grown, adding to risks of political instability and economic downturn for an unpopular
government that is already reeling from a militant insurgency

"The speed with which the situation is deteriorating is frightening," said Neva Khan, Oxfam's country director in Pakistan.

"Communities desperately need clean water, latrines and hygiene supplies, but the resources currently available cover only a fraction of what is required."

I shouldn't have donated for Katrina is what you are saying?
He probably didn't.

Personally I haven't any extra money to be giving them and if I had I'd probably be donating it to those in need here. Good luck though, hope you succeed.

Since this event seems to have gotten little attention, I will ask a fundamental question.

How much aid have fellow Islamic nations given to the plight of the Pakistani people?

I can't find any information on this in the main stream media.

Just open google and type in *Name of Islamic nation* aid to pakistan.

Then find what you are looking for.
Here, I did Saudi Arabia for you.

The legacy of British slavery lives on. It's amazing how the actions of the British Empire still affect the world decades after it was ejected out of most of its colonies.

Any solutions to this ongoing problem?

The solution is in infrastructure and aid post-disaster. A disaster like this may be an anomaly or difficult to prevent in any situation. Because Pakistan is a poor country, funds should be used from the British government because they helped to create this situation.

The British government is currently in talks on severe austerity measures. They should continue to make cuts from departments/services, but give the savings to aid organizations/governments to deal with the issues. Perhaps several trillion dollars worth of payments will be adequate to reverse the damages of the British Empire just for this one area alone.

Even if Britain pays reparations, won't Britain just make the same mistake again in the future? What can we do to stop the future menace of Europe?

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/do...ief+Pakistan+flood+victims/3454614/story.html

In Pakistan the floods started on July 29, nearly a month ago, when unusually heavy monsoon rains caused flash floods and landslides in northwestern Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

These are largely no-go areas for government officials and military at the best of times. So it was not until a few days later, when the waters, constantly bolstered by fresh monsoon rains, swept down the valley of the Indus River into the Punjab heartland and then on to Sindh in the south, that the extent of the devastation and threat of further destruction became apparent.

Within Pakistan the government's response was woeful and much criticism was levelled at Zardari, who embarked on a planned trip to Europe despite the need for action at home.

He compounded his sins by taking a side trip to visit, by helicopter, his chateau in Normandy in northern France. This crass act of insensitivity not only reminded people both in Pakistan and abroad of the president's reputation for corruption -he's known as "Mister Ten Per Cent" for his alleged rake-offs from government contracts -but also highlighted the government's lack of resources such as helicopters to bring aid to people isolated in the floods.

Just because some Muslims think we are the Great Satan, it doesn't mean they all are. In fact, most Muslims are actually living teddy bears who love Jews and Christians and think women and gays should have the right to live life the way they want to.

Waiting patiently for the TheGreenBean to come into thread and tell us how horrible the US and it's people are. Then beg for money for flood assistance. His other thread had to be locked b/c he had the nerve to do so.
