Painting the tC logo black.

I'd like to debadge the tC logo on the back of my car, as well as the scion logo, and them pain them black, and reapply.

anyone have any exp in this? my cars black and I like the black on black look, eventually
 
I would think you could buy professionally made black ones somewhere. Otherwise, there's no reason you couldn't chemically strip them, prime them and paint them with spray paint. If you take your time in prepping them they should look fine.

Because I didn't say i wanted to de-badge the car, i said i wanted to paint the logo.

Best bet is to buy a new set of badges from the dealer, sand off the existing finish, spray them with primer, and then a matching paint.

The dealer will sell you matching paint, but likely not in a spray can, so you might be on your own to find something that matches. I wouldn't recommend brushing it because it will look brushed.

I suggest new badges only because it means you still have the old ones on your car if the finished product ends up looking like shit, or if the adhesive won't entirely come off the old badge and makes it sit non-flush on the car when you reapply.

Don't skip the sanding, get all of the old chrome finish off, or paint if that's what it is. If it's just solid polished metal, get all of the polished surface off and sand to a dull haze. Shouldn't be too rough or the primer won't help. If you can't get it to this stage, you might try bondo first, then sand, prime, sand, paint.

Just like painting an entire car, doing this will all be in the prep.
 

Prep is a waste of time really. Most of these chrome-colored plastic dealies have a smooth finish already, unless you've fucked them up.

Just de-badge, get some krylon adhesion promoter, some krylon fusion black, do about 2-3 coats of the adhesion promoter and about 3 - 5 coats of the paint until you get the look you want.

By the way, aren't you the same douche who installed unhoused/unshielded HID bulbs?

My friend has a black (dark graphite....whatever the color is. close to black) tC and he did the logs in black and in the car color, and we both decided it looked better without the badges.
 
Why even bother to debadge? Just spraypaint the badge and try not to get too much on the rest of the car. No worries.
 
If you use a spray can, get one with the "vertical" tip, not the normal round tip. I think Duplicolor makes cans like that (other brands might as well; they advertise it on the back of the can), and it's a night and day difference if you're trying to get it to look good. I painted a couple of the inner sheet metal panels on my Mustang using rattle cans with those tips, and you can hardly tell it wasn't done with a gun.

Even on something as small as a badge it makes a big difference.
 
Better off getting an new set off ebay or something. It will look 10x better than trying to paint your own, without the hassle, and probably won't cost more than the can of paint.
