Painting the exterior of your two story house sucks...

I painted the T1-11 siding on my two story house with a roller on Monday and Tuesday and have been in severe back pain ever since. I had to paint the upper half with a 14' extension pole which was killer on my shoulders and lower back.

Currently taking Beare Back and Body along with an occasional Flexoral... which is helping, but I'm still in a lot of pain.

Everyone keeps telling me to go see a doctor, but all they are going to tell me to do is take it easy and take OTC medication for the pain.

This sucks! :(

Hopefully the physical agony is worth whatever you could have paid someone else to do it.

Best quote I got was $3k and I did it myself in 2 days.... was it worth it? I'll let you know when my back stops hurting. :)

As for spraying it, yes it would have been much faster, but I don't like ladders. As stupid as it sounds, I am always afraid of falling. Stupid, yes, but it's reality. I didn't want to rent scafolding because I'm doing it all myself, so that's kind of hard to setup alone.

Rolling was my own avenue.

3k? I would've gone into town and hired a few "undocumented workers" to do it for a few hundred bucks. If it took just you two days, three guys should be able to knock it out in a day easily.

You're friggin painting the second story of your house from the ground using a roller on an extension pole? Wow. Hope you're able to get things painted evenly. How are you getting the soffits and other hard to reach spots painted?

It helps that I was painting it the original color, which was faded in a few spots. Luckily the soffits were in good shape, but the eaves of the house are going to need to be done. I will get on a ladder (I have a 20 footer out back) for those, as they can be done rather easily with a 4" roller. I am also going to use a ladder for around the window & shutters, but that should be simple with a 3" cut in brush.

It looks very good if I say so myself. I have gotten lots of compliments from my neighbors already. It looked old and faded before, now it looks crisp and even.

My back is getting better, a pillow for lumbar support really helps! :)

I leave for a 3 week trip to Hawaii saturday night (business trip), so my next project won't be till mid sept.

If you don't like ladders why didn't you go rent some scaffolding? Around here you can rent the stuff for about $100 a day. It makes painting so much easier, quicker, and safer.

scaffolding and a paint sprayer makes life so much easier when painting your house. Both can be rented for pretty reasonable rates as well.

Even if you spray it, you should still roll it in. Otherwise it doesn't fill the surface texture adequately.
