Painting Hubcaps

The hubcaps on my 96 Accord are peeling in places, though the rest of the paint is pretty much new-looking. Since this car is going to be sold when I go off to college in about a year, I want to repaint the caps to freshen up the look of the car. The body color of the car is Honda/PPG Heather Mist Metallic, and the hubcaps are a slightly different shade of silver (see link below...the car in the link has the exact same paint as my car).

I was researching different types of paints, and thought Krylon Fusion seemed like the best choice. Does anyone have input on what kind of paint to use and whether a primer is necessary? Also, color suggestions are welcome 🙂

Thanks

sounds like you want to do it for the fun of it.

I actually did on my previous celica, (can't find the pics, it was 5 years ago). my car was black and the hubcaps was silver like yours - and I made it black.

step 1, sand it down real good (dry, wet, from 100 grid down to 600).
2, primer (forgot what brand, but it was a spray can and from the same brand as the black paint)
3, paint. (coated twice)

it looks GREAT the first.... 2 days. The gloss didn't last longer than 2 weeks. it just looks dull and like a bad case-painting job.

so, in conclusion, don't bother doing it. especially with Silver, you will have a hard time matching the exact same color as the hubcap original one.

This is a common issue with Honda hubcaps (and probably other makes, too). The solution is to only buy models with alloy wheels!

No seriously, I'd just look at the local junk yard to see if you can score some than look better, or even some alloys from the same year's EX model. Other than that, I just wouldn't worry about it too much. I sold my last Accord with peeling hubcaps and peeling paint and an engine that was leaking and burning oil, and I still got the KBB "fair condition" price for it.
