Can anyone help me on how to paint the faces to my cd-rom drives? I know how to remove the faces but want to know what preparations i should take and what sort of paint to use. Also what method to apply the paint would also help. Thanks in advance for any help.

Take the faceplates off. Buy some 220 and 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper and lightly sand them until all glossyness fades, starting with the 220 and go to the 600.

Wash and dry them, and make sure there in no lint, dust, etc. You are ready to paint. Any kind of regular spray paint will do. But I just got killer results with "rustoleum metalic". This RULES. Plus it dries quickly unlike many other brands I've tried. You can basicly do extra coats in 15min to 30min instead of several hours, like other brands.

Do a light coat and let dry(this is quick), then do one good wet coat, but not too thick as to drip. Then sand down with the 600 grit until it is smooth. Now you can do the final color coat. Make sure it is even as this is the one.

Now this is the layer that will protect and make it stand out as a professional job. Buy a can of "rustoleum stops rust Crystal Clear". Any clear coat will do, but as I said this dries fast and works superb. Do a few light coats, and make sure the final one is a wet one( like I said no drips). Fast drying time is important here as anything that gets in the clear coat stays here.

Let the clear coat dry well before touching( I recommend much longer than the others, finger prints can still be set in the clear). And that's it, you're done!

I just got done with my case. And it looks superb. It looks like a professional auto finish, and the clear coat looks like you can swim in it. And with the quick dry paint it took less time than any project Ive ever done. I highly recommend these. Plus you can get them anywhere, I got them from both Sears and Walmart.

The paint I used was $4.99 for the metalic color, and $3.29 for the clear. I swear, after I was done it looked like it came from an auto body shop.

Good luck.
