anybody know how to make a durable paint finish on plastic parts?

i'm trying to paint a nerf maverick... it's a 6shot nerf revolver. (already took out the limiters, gonna get a stiffer spring...thing's gonna shoot HARD)

anyways, it has this ugly ass yellow and blue paint job, so i'm trying to repaint it. but i'm not sure on what to get and how to paint plastic.

ideas?

Plastic? Auto paint & lots of clearcoat. Basically:

-Sand the surface
-Apply primer (dark or light, depending on paint color selection), sand again
-Apply multiple coats of color, drying and sanding between coats (don't sand the top coat)
-Apply multiple coats of clearcoat
-Wax for shinyness

Duplicolor is a great brand of paint that can be found at most auto supply stores like Pep Boys, tons of colors to choose from.

Edit: You might also want to try some Plasti-Grip spray to enhance your grip on the grip after painting. Review: http://metku.net/index.html?path=mods/supergrip/index_eng

thanks, i'll look into both tomorrow.

For doing simple paintjobs, there's really no magic involved. It's just all about prep work and patience. Make sure you have the tools you need, and don't get in a hurry. Let the paint dry between coats, do a good, solid job, and it will come out great. There's a great tutorial over at MNPC Tech, just click on the big blue link at the bottom to start:
