so im going to get into a league at Ohio State (Ohio State Army), a club-like group that will play tourny's that go all the way to nationals (speedball league, at least im pretty sure thats all it ever is).

one of the kids if offering me a Dye DM4 for $380. im seriously am considering his offer, plus a standard size (68?) carbon-fiber CO2 tank for around $80.. i got pants from the group's leader, will be getting a team jersey (they look pretty sick). I'll be needing to get a few things, like a mask, some pods and the kit to hold the pods and what not.

any ideas specifically what to get?
my roomie mentioned paintballgear.com (saying it was like the amazon of paintball parts).. anyone have any specific advice?
yes, i've played the sport before, and I figure it will be good since I am in Army ROTC and will give me both teamwork and shooting. but i've only played woodland/army style, so tourny/speedball is different and requires a bit different stuff (im all about a tippman 98 with a flatline barrel for play in the woods).

hmm, you might get better responses from pbnation.com

$380 is too good to be true.
and the tank cannot be CO2, prolly compressed air tank.. also good price.

go to local paintball store and check it out.. ask around.. most of the workers/owners are players themselves.

Seems like a good deal as long as the marker isn't problem ridden. My buddy who used to play was sponsored and got all his sh!t for free...lucky bastard.

Yuck? Flatline rules in the woods.

Its great when a squad is standing around, assuming theyre out of range, when all of a sudden they all hit the deck when you start sniping at them.

Sure, not as accurate, but flatline + camo + cover + scope = pwnage. Just have to play a different way, and forget about ever touching the flag.

But why does it have to keep raining EVERY damn weekend! No noobs with rentals come out when it rains. :p

For the mask, I use proflex 7, old mask, but is rather comfortable. For the pods, any would work. The harness is up to you. Some likes horizontals, some likes the verticals that can be attacked upside down (pods retrieved from the downward direction), or rightside up (pods retrieved going upwards). i prefer verticals pointing down because I won't have to bend my arms tightly vs the up positon.
