Anyone have a good newbie site than can explain all the different functions of a paintball gun? Im looking into getting a paintball gun for my nephew, who is into PB, a really good gun. Problem is if I ask him what all the specs mean, he'll suspect something:D All I know is he likes the brand Kingman. I found this one here and it has the adjustable fire rates he was looking for, but the list of "Popular Add-Ons" mean nothing to me...

Any help would be appriciated.

What pricerange are you looking at? If it's the $150 range (at least a few years back when I bought mine) the Tippman 98 just cannot be beat. I mean the thing is insanely reliable. It's considered THE gun to get in that price range unless something else has come out recently to dethrone it (probably another tippman gun!).

Well, I could pretty much tell you everything on the planet about paintball, but heres some sites.

WARPIG- The paintball site

1-800-paintball

Those two are great, esp. the PIG

I used 1-800-paintball for all my purchases untill I got a semi-job at a field run by a local store, instead of payin me they let me buy stuff at cost so its all good. :)

I would say there are two main types of starter guns out there (yes there are others)... a Kingman Spyder, and a tipman 98. I have had both and they are both really good. The Spyder I liked because I can find aftermarket parts for almost every single piece on there. Where as the Tipman (from what I have experienced) makes a good sniper type gun. I now have a more advanced gun, Shocker with Glacier board (a fully automatic addon board). If you have any specific questions don't be affraid to PM me :)

The model 98 is a reliable gun, but its lacking a bit of power. I also cannot stand a plastic gun. If you put the flatline barrel system on it, the performance is a lot better. About the equiv of my .68 Carbine.

Btw, Kingman International SUCKS.

Totally, I still use mine, that or my tricked out Stinray 1.. oh yeah, :p

And as for all the people recommending the Tipman 98, don't. I've had to work on so many of them at the field its just a pain. The Spyders usually work better and the parts are cheaper and more interchangable. Just don't get the kid an Autococker or Angel or anything else that uses pneumatics or electronics.

My whole thing is, I see kids now a days who's parents just buy them the most expensive gun on the market to make little Johnny happy so that they don't have to parent them. Then the kid goes out and either screws the gun up and has to spend the whole day fixing it (or paying someone like me to fix it). That or he goes though a case of paint in three games. And worst of all, me with my good ol' Stingray 1 can still take them out.

I only really use my Angel for speedball and when I'm playing good teams. The rest of the time I use the Stingray b/c it forces me to use my head more.
