Hmm....that sounds like the description of a robbery suspect. 😀

Glad someone answered your ?? on the chrono (I got busy after I posted that and couldn't get back soon enough). Yeah most places will chrono the guns but it's always good to make sure they do it. Good safe practice.

From my experiences, the paint hurts... but just enough for you to feel macho. It's agonizing for about 2 or 3 seconds, then it dulls, and you get some sweet bruises to show your friends.

Remember to raise your marker in the air and surrender if you have 4 or 5 guys that will be rounding a corner on you. It's not worth it to go down in a blaze of fire from 20 feet away...

Alright fellas this is on for this Sat from 10 - 1pm so I will let you know how it goes once I am done.

I went with the player package (morning session, all equipment supplied, all day air, 500 paint balls included) - $39 per person.

If we need more paint everyone will have to buy their own (I covered the rest)

Unfortunately we have 12 people and that is not enough for a private game on the weekends here (has to be 20 on the w/e 10 during the week) so we sadly get lumped in with the public. I hope they don't put us with the good people otherwise this will not be fun. We'll have to see.

Really looking forward to it and I am hoping this turns into a regular thing as I miss playing softball and have been jonesin' for a good fun outdoor activity to play.

98 customs as rental gear? That's pretty decent. I have a 98 Custom also with an upgraded barrel. Hope you have fun! At my local field there's usually 1 field people aren't using so if I can find a ref, I'll get my group of newbs over there to play.

Don't play speedball. It sucks with rental markers. Woodsball if fun with anything.

It can hurt, but meh. I play in a t-shirt and loose pants, I would play in shorts but I would cut up my knees crawling around.

Usually there will be a few yahoos with $1k markers that like to crank up their FPS and light people up, not much you can do about it but complain to the refs.

1) Like someone else said, $50-100 for an entire day (about 6 hours). That's including rental equipment and paint. A lot of fields, at least in my area, don't allow players to bring your own paintballs. If they do, it's only for special days and times. I would check around and get some information about a few places before you do it. If you can find a place that lets you bring your own paint, just go to Dick's or something and buy the paintballs cheap there.

2) Yes, it hurts. You'll definitely go home with a few welts and bruises but it's not that bad. Also, when you're playing and you're in the moment you'll hardly notice.

3) Wear old, baggy stuff. I can assure you that whatever you're wearing WILL get ruined to some degree. Baggy clothes are for comfort... but they're also to help deflect/catch/slow flying paintballs.

4) Any field worth a shit will have plenty of safety measures in place. More than likely there will be a few douchebags that show up with all their pro equipment and try to light you and your friends up, but I wouldn't worry too much. What you lack in firepower you'll make up for in common sense and basic woodsball tactics.

I played paintball for about 4 years, both woodsball and speedball. I you have any other questions I'd be more than happy to answer them for you.

I did this a couple of weeks ago with 16-18 coworkers. It was $50 for rental, field fee, 1000 rounds, and lunch. Pretty much everyone was from the team at work which was fun because there was trash talk leading up to it. We were there for like 6 hours which was exhausting but you will want at least 4 or so.

It was great to play with people I knew especially since a number of us were first timers. I think that made for a lot better experience to have a light hearted game with no jackasses shooting hot or lighting you up with 5 hits.

I wore jeans on lower, and upper was a long sleeve shirt plus a sweatshirt, which was maybe one layer too much for the temperature. I got hit a quite a few times in different areas and only some stung more than a touch. Don't be afraid of hits as long as its not bare skin (i.e. wear pants, long sleeves, and try and get something to protect your neck).

Only problem is that night and the next few days I could hardly walk. My thighs were pretty much useless.

edit: Echo the baggy clothes. My sweatshirt was pretty baggy and hits were blasting me left and right without breaking. Even though I was hosed and bombarded from all sides, I'd keep checking and calling a paint check and be cleared by the ref.

I pretty much bought clothes for it because I didn't want to ruin my stuff. The hits on my jeans washed out but left a slight discoloration so just have a set of clothes you'll use for paintball/work outside.

This.

Don't overdress to make it hurt less, you'll just hinder your movement and get shot more. 😛

Make sure you use a chrono if the field provides one. Good safety measure. Anything over 300fps can hurt your ass real good.

What's this (for the paintball illiterate crowd ... i.e. me)?

It measures the speed of the paintball. Feet per second. 285 is usually field limit.

And they probably have the rentals shooting ~260 anyway. Shouldn't have to worry about it.
Yes to add the field I played at recently was 275 for all. I guess someone could increase theirs in the field but again that's why I thought playing with coworkers was best because there was no crap like that going on.

That's a shame. Playing with your own group is way more fun. It's going to depend on who you get to play with. The one time we went with a public group it was some kid's birthday party. There were only 5 of us adults. We lit them up good 😀
Also if you get a group together they usually gives the leader some discounts or free stuff. When we went once, we had 25 guys and the leader got a free gun. He already had one so he had a lottery and one of the other guys got it.

Yeah we are looking forward to playing this w/e. Our crew consists of 1 woman, 1 10 year old, 1 17 year old, several mid 20 somethings and about 5 elder statesman (those of us in the high 30's and low 40's)

I have a pair of baggy jogging pants (black) and picked up a camo t-shirt at walmart today for $3. I'll wear that over top of a long sleeve t-shirt as well. Got plenty of ball caps and I will break out my old hiking boots (covered in paint from working on rental houses). I should be all set.

Like I said I hope this turns out to be something regular as I thinking it will be a blast!

Rookie error to avoid:
If what you're hiding behind is getting shot, don't just cower behind it. Poke your head out at random locations, just for a moment, so you can keep tabs on where people are/where they are moving. If you stay cowered behind something, your opponents will simply move around freely while shooting at that object. Think of objects to be behind as something to use, not something to hide behind. Hiding = bad. Use trees/whatever as cover, but leave a little space between you and whatever you're using for cover.

Even if you're playing with a bunch of experts, it won't be bad. Generally, even experienced people want the matches to be relatively fair. It's not fun to go 3 on 20 and just slaughter the 20 people. Well, at least not after the 4th or 5th time. 😛

Here's a trick that'll work against rookies (and occasionally experienced people who know you're a rookie.) Turn your gun upside down and shoot a few times so that no paintballs are coming out. It'll make a different sound too. (Don't let the opponents see your gun upside down.) Yell over to a teammate a reasonable distance away "hey, I'm out of paint!" A lot of opponents will come running in to make the kill (or at least take much bigger chances than they should have to move in on you.) Bam, splat, Sucker!!

Do not stay in one place. Work in small teams - at least 2 or 3 - don't just think you can cover the side of a field by yourself. Do *not* stand behind the same tree/etc. with a teammate. Keep spread out a bit so you can work on angles against the opposing team.

Good advice and I am sure the "trick" will work on my crew.

Thanks

Playing in the woods, it's all about flanking. Get some guys to pin them and rest should move for a good angle shot. On the same token, be sure to secure the sides. You don't want them getting behind you.
