LOL, laughed at for having a Tippmann? There's nothing wrong with the guns Tippmann makes, unless you're some elitist doucheface who thinks anything but expensive electronic guns are garbage. This is even more true for the OP who is (was) playing his first fricking game.

Anyway, hopefully you rented a gun, OP. Unless you liked it a lot and now play as a hobby often, haha.

Actually I ended up getting a Tippmann U.S. Army Alpha Black Elite (M16-style gun, but it's essentially a Tippmann 98) bundle, which I've used a couple times since the original post. It's been a year or two since my last paintball trip, but I'm glad I got it and might go paintballing again soon.

I have recommended Tippmann guns since 1989. Yep I am that old and still play. I own an SL-II (pump gum), 98, and A5. I give them to friends that want to play since they are reliable markers.

My main maker of choice is my minimag 68, or my Autococker. I have had several kids mock my choice in paint makers. They have all walked off the field regretting it.

I also use to own a Spyder. I was alright but I had to upgrade the hell out of it to be as good as my mag.

Now you know how I chose my name for this forum.

Perfect! Good choice IMO.

I've had an SL-II and 98 Custom in the past and they worked great. Then again, I just played with friends in the woods and wasn't some l33t competitor. The 98C would've been fine for the time I played at a business outing thing too, though I would've felt out-gunned with the pump.

If you're going to play casual with some friends, a Tippmann is fine. Parts are easy to find and the gun is easy to clean. Since we live "in the sticks" we have to use CO2 so we are kind of stuck with Tippmann as our choice. They work fine though you would be no match against someone with a space gun. Since it is just a small group of buddies we play with no auto fire. Probably some of the best fun you can have for a day and about $50.

Mask, mask, mask first. A good one.

Yeah, tippmanns are built like tanks since they are made for CO2 and are the typical rental guns. They aren't the fastest, lightest, or most accurate, but they get the job done when playing for fun. If you were trying out for a speedball team with a tippmann 98 then you'll get laughed at though.

I have a tippmann98 but I also have a few others. A few I bought as used and got badly burned on though. Couple I was able to salvage and a couple I wasn't. My list of markers:

Bought the following new:
tippmann 98
Valken Proton
Empire Mini

Piked up the following used:
Angel Fly (came with a messed up solenoid and wasn't worth fixing)
Mac Droid (came with a busted board and wasn't worth fixing)
Timmy (came with a messed up cup seal and some bad o-rings. Those were easy enough to fix. The LCD is also bad, but doesn't stop operation of the marker and isn't worth fixing)
Timmy Ripper 3 (came with a bad stack but a replacement was cheap enough)
Ego 08 (came perfect and was the only one that did)

Just my word of caution to anyone that intends to ever buy used... I wouldn't recommend it. I even tried to make sure I picked markers from those with "good" feedback and got burned more often than not. Never had this problem with other things I've bought used online, just paintball guns.

Been awhile since I last played though. Would probably have to buy a new tank since my old tanks are probably not re-testable at this point.

Meh, every PB marker I've ever had was used. No issues.

I haven't played in ages, I miss it. I still have my Autococker that was modified for low pressure and 68 AutoMag, all from late 90's. Oh and F1 Illustrator too! I knew an ex-Navy Seal guy who modified an F1 where the air had a line going straight into the reservoir area instead of through the handle. He later sold it to a friend of mine, who developed a problem with that connection. Sent it in to F1 Illustrator company who fixed it, then started to release that mod as a standard thing a while later. :D

What I miss the most were just before semi-autos came out in full force. Fields ran pump actions and a few players might have owned a semi-auto.

That's PBNation is where I picked up my used markers. They mostly all had problems with them. I made sure to try to use people with good feedback but didn't matter. They sent their junk to me and I lost a bit of money in the process learning my lesson.
