I am remodeling a house and will be painting soon. seeing as there is no floor or baseboards right now I am considering spraying the paint for the walls and new (unfinished) cabinets.

we are also planning on repainting the outside in the spring and also have a rental house.

considering our use, i would like to purchase a sprayer. It seems that the type that sucks paint out of a bucket and has the remote gun would be better, as I will be doing ceilings and painting on a ladder for the exterior. as opposed to the type with a small container on the gun. I would like to stick with electric as my compressor will not provide enough volume for sprayers.

lowes graco sprayer 299

300 seems to be a good value spot for sprayers. any you can recommend? have you used the above? (home depot also sells this under the x5 model name)

is the graco better than the cheaper homeright?

I used to have a model similar to that. It should do what you are asking. Cabinetry would be the toughest one as the airless put out a good bit of paint making it hard to do tight corners and moulding. They do make a special fine finish tip, but i believe it is only in the RAC X design which doesn't interchange with the RAC IV, so you'll have to buy an extra part.

As far as airless in general, we don't use ours very much. Over spray is a pain. Takes a while to clean it out. Takes a good bit of paint to prime the system. I have a big titan 1140 and it uses a half gallon of paint to prime the pump and hose. If you are doing a small job that needs only 1 gal of paint, you need 1.5gal. That graco will use less, but it is something you have to remember. Also, to do a good quality job outdoors, you should back brush/roll it. I've had troubles just spraying exterior. Paint just seems to lie on the surface and never makes a good bond. It really helps to have a second person that can come behind you to do that

Just a thought - why not one of the less expensive sprayers that go on your air compressor - and just do where you would have to cut in with a brush with it - corners, etc. Then, a roller for the rest. Rollers are fairly quick.
