Paint my wheels?

Alright, my wheels are in need of a refinishing job. My choices are silver or black, I figure any other color would look nasty. Before I get started though, I would like some other opinions on the matter. Here's some pics to give you ideas (if anyone can do a better photoshop job, please do, I would like to see with more gloss).

Silver Wheels (Current State)
Black Wheels (but with more gloss)

Here is more the "gloss" I'm looking for (although I would have black/colored center caps, and no chrome lip):

Sample Wheels

Also does anyone have any tips on obtaining the finish that I'm looking for? Would just high-gloss black spraypaint do it w/ a few layers of clear coat?

If you paint them, it's going to look crappy. It will chip easily and flake off after a while. Get them polished or powder coated, or jsut get new wheels. Also, that black looks crappy.

Real-life sample of what they look like done

I will be working with this guy to get them done, so I would expect a finish just about like that.

He painted them himself, but I might consider powdercoating depending on the cost.

Since it would cost almost nothing for me to paint them myself, I may do it & then just sand them down if I'm not satisfied with the looks/results/life.

Get them powdercoated.

Why do you want black wheels? Looks like cheapo steel wheels without wheelcovers.

For some reason, I have never liked black colored wheels.

I prefer silver.

What ever color you choose go for powder coating
it is much more durable. Spraying them will chip and
eventually look nasty.

I like the shiny black myself.:p

Those aren't chrome originally, they're silver painted aluminum.

The reasoning for the black is that there is no silver on the car, it's all red with black trim, so I just figured that the black wheels would fit better.

I've had a lot of mixed comments, but they have all been either real strong one way or another. Either way everyone says to do a quality job of it. I've been told powdercoating would be like $55/wheel + un-mounting/mounting/balancing of tire. I would definatly like the look of the powdercoating, plus it would be much stronger, but not sure if I want to spend that money. May just paint them initially to see how it looks & then send them to be powdercoated if I really like the black.

Maybe I should get some 24"s as well, black out the windows, put in some killer subs, slam it, and hang some fuzzy dice from the mirror.

umm....swine?
