Paint issue

All:

Have a spot on my rear quarter panel where the paint is fading and looks like it is spotted. Metal looks to be shining through. Is there anyway to prevent this from getting worse? It is a small area about the size of an orange. I do keep the car clean and waxed. Unsure why this happened, but would like to prevent the additional damage and it possibling spreading. This would be the only spot on the car. BTW it is a 05 Ford Focus ZX5.
