A chronic problem on the 05-06 GTO's was that the paint on the door handles would start flaking off. I was hoping mine wouldn't run into this but a nice big flake popped off when I opened the car door this morning. Looks like whatever plastic material the door handles are made from didn't allow the paint to adhere too well. Right now it's just on the bottom lip and the underside of the handle, but if it keep flaking it's going to look like ass since the plastic underneath is a cream color.

Anyway, do you think a shop could respray the door handle pretty easily? Or am I going to have to track down a new primed unpainted handle for them to work with? I've always heard re-painting plastic parts is a pain in the ass since they can't sand it down to bare material with out carving up the plastic. Any truth to that?

If you have any sort of GM warrenty on the car some dealerships will respray the door handles for free. It's a known problem.

I would do as suggested above first. But if needed, you can definitely have them resprayed. They most likely weren't fully prepped before painting at the factory.

I think the standard warranty is out on the car and I didn't bother purchasing any extended warranty. The original warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles I think. It's at 28,500 on the odo but the 3 years is most definitely up. I might give the local Pontiac a call and see what they say but chances are I'll have to take it somewhere to get them re-done. I know a guy that does good work for a good price. He took care of my last car when I got rear ended. Since it's just door handles we're talking about the hardest part will be taking them off the car to paint them.

Thanks for the input guys.
