My nephew is turning 7 next week. Pellet guns are out of the qeustion, but his mother is cool with me getting him a paintball gun. Found a Piranha Pro GS T3 for $20 from a cousin. The gun was used like 3 times. I will still need to purchase the ball hopper, mask and co2 tank for it. I played once when I was 12, so I don't know jack about the sport. Other then filling the co2 tank and the hopper full of balls, anything else I should know? Do i need to oil the gun, if so how often? Also whats with the little mini barrel below the main barrel? His birthday is saturday. I was planning on going to a local paintball store but didn't want to look to foolish. Also does this thing use batteries? If so what for? Oh will post pics when he takes it out shooting for the first time. His dad is away in the military for the next year. So no pansy ass comments about a 7yrold and a gun.

The little barrel is not actually a barrel, it is a low pressure chamber. You should oil the gun every once in a while, should be one spot where you can put a few drops and it will oil the whole thing.

No batteries for this one, some use batteries since they have electronic trigger frames to make the gun fully automatic.

That's a decent gun, I would try and get that other stuff used though or you will end up paying more for the accessories than you do for the gun.

Spyder is a good, solid, entry level brand as well, I believe spyder barrels fit piranh as well and the other way around.

if he is just screwing around outside (not shooting at someone or someone shooting at him) just shooting glasses will suffice. It's once people start shooting you in the cheek/neck that full goggles/mask are really needed.

Oh and check online, don't let the local shop screw you. Most likely you can haggle there, especially if you are buying a few things. I am sure they get noobs all the time and would love to help you since often them doing that will get you hooked and you will go back there.

PM me if you have any other questions, I will do my best to answer!

If you play 3 times a year for 2 years that's a horrible suggestion. And the OPs situation is such that the kid will be shooting it around, meaning not just on a field playing. And it costs $15 to rent, why would you rent for $15 instead of buy for $20?
