Is there a specific type of painkiller that doctors prescribe for migraines? What about just regular headaches?

Can they prescribe painkillers for acute depression?

Excedrin Migraine works well for that... well, that's what my mom told me as she used to get em a bit more often than not and she used it. I use Excedrin Tension for my neck problem (which can cause migraine-esque headaches) and even that works well.

Imitrex is currently the standard. There is another pill called Fiorinal (fioricet) that is a combo of APAP/caffeine/codeine and a barbiturate.

I see.

What if u are feeling down and depressed? Do doctors ever prescribe painkillers for that? Or is it just slow-acting anti-depressants?

No they won't prescribe painkillers for depression. They will prescribe anti-depressants and suggest strongly that you seek help.
Painkillers are for ya know, pain. Painkillers are a depressant, they won't help you with depression.

On a side note I STRONGLY, VERY VERY STRONGLY suggest you do not take painkillers for depression or making youself feel better.
I did that and got in trouble. I've learned that masking your problems with substance is NOT the way to deal with it. The painkillers and whatnot will make you feel like a million dollars for a while, then eventually you will need them just to feel normal. Eventually you will find yourself dependant upon them, your problems/depression will still exist and you will also have a drug problem.

If you need real help, seek it. Don't run from it.

Yeah, they will make you feel great but like SampSon said you'll just get hooked on them and then you won't feel normal without them. Not a good idea to treat depression with them.

This man speaks the truth....very sound advice.

You very well might feel better in the short term on painkillers, but in the end they'll really mess you up. There are no exceptions to this rule.

That said, there are sometimes painful physical symptoms that go along with severe depression.

In fact, I think there's a new med out (saw a commercial for it, but don't recall the name) that treats both depression and the painful physical symptoms. You might want to look into that. I'd steer clear of it if it's a narcotic in any way.

I guess i'll just have to become dependent on an anti-depressant, then.

Having to wait several weeks for it to start working, that's IF it works at all...

Fine, whatever.

I find alcohol and marijuana work well, plus maybe a bit of speed or cocaine, but unless you want to become a functional drug addict like myself I wouldn't start on that stuff....

SampSon appears to know what he is talking about.
