painkillers - which do you prefer

perc/vic do more to make me sleepy than take pain away. oxy much better for me. demorol in an IV also works well but has a real short duration.

I was given hydrocodone after I had my wisdom teeth out. Didn't do crap for me. Didn't feel a buzz, either. Gave up and popped two Motrin IB and the pain disappeared. Same thing with Tylenol 3 with Codeine. May as well have been eating candy.

Everybody is different. I was completely unimpressed the one time I smoked pot, too but I am a lightweight drunk.

Ummm. That's why it's iv.

When then pain killer is a patch or IV Therese a reason the dose has to be monitored

Come on...it's brianmanahan...ignorant statements are all he ever makes.

The guy is like rainman...with a severe oxygen deficiency.

Although, until this thread...I never knew why he was the way he is...

in the words of uncle scar, you have no idea 🙁 it is why i am trying to save as much money as i can. my job is very mentally intensive and every day is a constant battle to remember what 5 people are doing and how we are going to get stuff done 6 months from now. half the time i cant even remember what someone told me 5 minutes ago! such is the effect of losing half my short term memory. i dont think there is any way i will be able to do this past the age of 45 or 50.

though with the side affects of brain surgery and seizures, i dont expect to live much past 60, so i probably dont need to save that much... but of course if i dont, i will end up living to 100!

Wow, it was weird to realize that I can't remember the last time I took a pain killer. And the only reason I ever take something is for a debilitating headache. Otherwise, I just live with the pain. And, yes, I've had excruciating back pain before. Last time, I pulled something in my lower back. 100 bales of hay on the ground outside the barn, thunder storm approaching, I was all but in tears from the pain, wincing with even the tiniest movements, let alone putting hay in the barn. Nothing else I could have done though, I just rationalized that I'd be doing the same thing with pain killers in me; so the pain was all in my head.

ugh, storms + hay = terrible times. last time i was stacking wet bales (70-80 lbs each) i started seeing in black and white and almost fell of the wagon, lol.

Just took two percs hoping they would allow me to sleep but I must have done something to piss my sciatic nerve off as the pain is really keeping me awake 2 more weeks until my surgery....

None.

I have taken morphine, Percocet, tramadol, Oxycodone, and a whole host of others. Barely make me feel different; although the morphine put me to sleep.

My aunt however now has prescriptions for everything under the sun. Percocet, with Tramadol while waiting for the next time I can give her Percocet. It sure makes a difference to her.

For me, four+ shots of Scotch or some hash beats any man made pill. I think I'm being trolled when I see doc's where people are all nuts and like-crack-addicted from things like oxycodone... I just don't get it. It's like people going nuts from Ricola cough drops for all the 'power' they have.

americans use 80% of the world's pain killers. essentially we've turned into a nation of sissies who can't tolerate the tiniest bit of pain.

Three surguries in the last 4 months and I stopped taking the pain pills. I have chronic pain from the surgeon getting to close to a nerve in my neck. I just grin and bear it now. I have norcos and oxy and muscle relaxers but I hate them all. I swear if I was in Colorado I would start smoking pot again for the pain. At least with that shit I could function. Pills made me feel like a zombie.

Vicodin. I don't like the way Percocet makes me feel. I have chronic pain after two spinal surgeries and was on Vicodin for awhile, but quit them six months ago. I feel that with the Tylenol in there, they are too dangerous. They were helping somewhat, so it does suck on a bad day but sooner or later you have to just deal with it. The hardest part for me aside from the pain is anger management and not being a dick.

I'm not a big painkiller guy. I got a bottle of Tylenol 3 when I had a toothache in college, and used them to erase headaches until they were gone. The next time I got them was when I had my first gout attack in my mid 30s.

I agree with whoever said they don't really kill the pain, just make you not give a damn about it any more.

My current doctor is kind enough to let me suffer through the pain when I get gout but fortunately it's been almost 3 years since I've had an attack. On the other hand, my wife gets painkillers if she gets a hangnail.

In the realm of prescription pain killers, which do you prefer, percocet or hydrocodone? Why?

I'm taking hydrocodone for my back and it seems to do the trick, however, my sister in law had a kidney stone which they had to blast out and she had a catheter in as well. She is taking percocet for her pain and swears by it.

Just curious which is "better" or why one is prescribed over the other.
Looks like percocet is oxycodone vs hydrocodone for the other.

Oxycontin. It's pure oxy without any addons, available up to 80mg (which is quite a lot).
