I'm in the market for a grill and a Weber is on top of my list.
Which model Weber do you have and whats your opinion on it?

I just bought my parents a new grill - bought it based on the latest consumer reports reviews of grills. I don't remember Weber being rated all that highly in the price range I shopped ($300-500).

If you'd like, I can summarize the ratings for you when I get home from work tonight, just let me know your price range and I'll give you their best buy reccomendations.

What's your price range/size requirements then?

The one I bought my parents was a Char-Broil all-stainless commercial model from Lowes, it was $400. It has something like 650 square inches of grilling space, side burner, and stainless steel racks that are a step up from the coated cast iron grill racks used in the next model down. It has lifetime-warrantied burners as well. CR gave the next model up a best buy ranking and had it marked excellent in every catagory. That model has more cooking space and a slightly fancier side-burner (it's also $100 more), other than that they're exactly the same from what I could tell.

I can't comment on performance, it's still in my truck until I can take it out to their place and assemble it.

We (me & my mother) bought my father a Weber "Baby Q" grille for the upcoming Father's Day gift.

It was $119 w/ free shipping at Etronics.com

You're clearly in the market for something bigger, but I thought I'd answer the question at hand ;)

His "big grille" is a rather large "Holland Grille" that is just off the chart...mmmmmmm

The big, black, round one you put charcoal in.... Does that help? It looks like every other charcoal grill I've ever seen.

Consumer Reports gave their Best Buy's awards to these grills:

Medium size:

Vermont Castings VM400XBP ($400, Home Depot) - this model does not have a side burner
Char Broil Advantage Series 463453305 ($200, Lowes)
BBQ Grillware: GSF-2616 ($200, Lowes)

Large:
Great Outdoors Pinnacle TG-560 ($500, Lowes)
Char broil Commercial Series 463251705 ($500, Lowes) - This one is rated excellent in every catagory, is all or mostly stainless, has premium grates, and lifetime warrantied burners

The Weber grills they reviewed were 6th (in the Medium catagory, for the Genesis Silver B) and 5th (in the Large catagory for the Summit Gold, which is $1350)

If your budget is $500 and you need the cooking space of the $500 weber from Lowes, go with that one. Otherwise, there's a model right below that in size for $400 - the only discernable differences besides the size I could see was that the side burner on the $500 one had a brass cap on it and the larger grill had one more main burner. The $400 model was the one I bought for my parents, it's more than large enough for them.

According to CR, many stainless grills use a lower grade of stainless steel (all the ones they gave CR Best Buy Awards to had this lower grade). They're slightly more likely to corrode according to the tests that CR did (when compared to the higher grade of stainless steel), so buy a grill cover too (the one I picked up was $13). If you want to tell if the stainless steel is 300-series, bring a magnet. 300-series isn't magnetic, where 400-series is.

Those prices are for propane grills, natural gas (at Lowes at least) was $50 more.

(edited for more info on stainless-steel quality)

genesis silver c

i love it. it's my first grill but i've had no complaints so far. customer service is also top notch.

get the silver b though as i've never ever used the side burner which i believe is the only difference between the b and c models.

For me, charcoal takes too much time. With a Weber gas grill, you warm it up to 500°, throw on your burgers/steak/chicken, and it's done in no time, plus there's barely any cleanup.

We just got a 2005 Weber Silver A. I was wanting a Silver B but they raised the prices this year. I was at first very disappointed that I didn't get the B, as it has a largers surface area and higher BTUs. However, after using the A more than few times in the last month I've realized that I would've spent the extra money for not much gain. We've had 7 to 8 people over, and the A is big enough to cook 8 to 10 burgers at once, and even though the BTU's are lower, it's still plenty hot.

The wife had to re-assure me that the A would work. In addition, depending on big your patio/deck is, the B may be a little bit too large.

I think I was enamored with the specs of the B (like I am with computers, aquariums, cars, rock climbing, mountain biking....the list goes on), but in real world apps, the A is fine unless you're BBQ'ing for a group of 10 or more.
